This document summarizes a study that conducted a stocktake of New Zealand's healthcare datasets. It identified 286 datasets across various categories held by different custodian organizations. Most datasets belonged to the Ministry of Health, universities, and district health boards. About half of the datasets contained individually identifiable patient data. The study found that while data quality and access protocols varied, there is significant value in New Zealand's health data assets. However, barriers around privacy and appropriate use would need to be addressed to fully realize this value. The study recommends making the stocktake information more accessible online and continuing to explore opportunities and address challenges around secondary use of the data.

This study evaluated the use of an interactive computer module to supplement a traditional paper informed consent form for pediatric endoscopy. Parents who received the supplemental electronic module were more likely to achieve informed consent compared to those who only received the paper form. The electronic module did not impact parent satisfaction, anxiety, or the number of questions asked of physicians. The results suggest that electronic tools can enhance traditional informed consent methods.

The literature review examines whether big data analysis and data mining can substitute traditional data collection and analysis in healthcare. It summarizes 5 papers that discuss both the benefits and limitations of these new techniques. A key theme is that while data mining is useful for detecting patterns, the quality of the data being mined is paramount. Several papers note that data fragmentation, missing information, and incorrect entries still pose challenges. Proper data cleaning and management remain essential parts of the process that cannot be fully automated or replaced. The review concludes that both new technologies and traditional human data quality practices are needed to maximize the insights that can be gained.
Journal for Clinical Studies: Close Cooperation Between Data Management and B...KCR
Every clinical trial is a source of multidimensional data, analyzed to answer questions on safety, efficacy and others. Invalid or incomplete data may lead to invalid conclusions and wrong decision. KCR’s Biostatistician, Adrian Olszewski, highlights the importance of cooperation between data management and biostatistics to improve data quality by introducing both statistical knowledge and the ability to create specialized, programmatic tools and advanced queries giving a good foundation for deeper and faster data investigations. Read more in the article published in the October Issue of Journal for Clinical Studies (p. 42-46).
The document discusses missing data in clinical trials and recommends Bayesian methods for imputation. It presents the objectives of comparing the performance of last observation carried forward (LOCF), baseline observation carried forward (BOCF) and multiple imputation through a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method on a simulated clinical trial dataset. The Bayesian MCMC approach is applied in SAS to impute missing vitreous haze scores across multiple visits in two treatment groups using a monotone model followed by a regression model, and results in estimates of efficacy endpoints with associated statistics and confidence intervals.

Healthcare analytics has the potential to reduce costs of treatment, predict outbreaks of epidemics, avoid preventable diseases, and improve quality of life. It can improve processes, enhance patient care, and save lives by using analytics to better predict patient needs and staff accordingly. Electronic health records store a patient's comprehensive medical history digitally, allowing doctors to track changes over time with no risk of lost data or duplication. Analyzing demographic health data allows for strategic planning to identify factors that discourage treatment uptake. Analytics also helps prevent security threats, fraud, and inaccurate insurance claims while streamlining the claims process. The patient experience, overall population health, and operational costs can all be improved through healthcare analytics.

Bellevue Hospital is the oldest public hospital in the USA and boasts having the most effective staff in line with the goals of the hospital in caregiving. Located at 462 First Avenue in the Kip bay of Manhattan in New York City. Currently, it serves an average of 460000 outpatients and has grown to be one of the most efficient hospitals in New York City. The heart health service is housed in the cardiology, and cardiothoracic surgery department which is world-renowned and the heart health program is among the few departments in the world and has a state of the art labs and have “our door to STEMI” produces better services beyond the average (Root, Schonfeld, Williams, & Poppers, 2017).
Mission, vision and strategic goal of the organisation
The mission of the hospital is to provide the highest quality of care to all the needy people in New York and all over the world with honesty, integrity, and with dignity even if the patient is not in a position to pay for the service that has been provided to them. The vision of the hospital is to be among the top ten hospitals in the country as far as the provision of quality service is concerned. Further, the hospital has a strategic goal of making the hospital the most popular in terms of compliance and service delivery so that all the people would work better at all time without any failure (Bellevue, 2016). Another strategic goal is improving communication so that the service delivery can be first, efficient and up to date.
The current state of the service using the marketing framework
The current state of the service is that it has invested in technology to serve the goals and ambitions of the hospital. It has incorporated technology to come up with the state of the art lab where people all over the country can be served. It is one of the hospitals where open-heart surgery is performed. Since the need of the hospital is to be the go-to place, it has ensured that the appropriate technology, leadership, and correct values to ensure that the correct virtues of the hospitals are maintained for better service delivery.
Stakeholders of the organization using the marketing framework
The Bellevue hospital has several stakeholders who interact in a very effective way to maintain the business in the hospital. The first stakeholders are the patients who pay for the services and the physicians who work around the clock to ensure that the patients always get what they pay for. The government is yet another stakeholder mainly mandated to monitor and ensure that the organization operates within the dictates of the law. Insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies all work together to ensure that the goals of the o ...
Chapter 19Estimates, Benchmarking, and Other MeasuremenEstelaJeffery653
Chapter 19:
Estimates, Benchmarking, and Other Measurement Tools
Definition of EstimateAccording to the dictionary, estimate “implies a judgment, considered or casual, that precedes or takes the place of actual measuring or counting or testing out” (Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 10th ed., s.v. “Estimate”).
Estimates
Such estimates may be of:AmountValueSize
EstimatesThe first question should be: “Is it capable of being estimated?”If so, using an estimate often involves a trade-off, such as gaining a quick answer that is less accurate. So relying on estimates for input to reports means sacrificing some degree of accuracy.
Estimates
Four common uses of estimates are typically due to:Timeliness considerationsCost/benefit considerationsLack of dataInternal monthly statements
Estimating the Ending Pharmacy InventoryCertain healthcare organizations (or departments such as pharmacy) require accounting for inventory. Internal monthly statement usually use ending inventory estimates. The following slide (Figure 19-1) illustrates steps in the ending inventory computation.
Figure 19-1 Estimating the Ending Pharmacy Inventory.
The Scope of EstimatesEstimates can be extremely general, or they can reflect considerable judgment and well-thought-out detail. An example of a general estimate and its subsequent impact due to unrecognized indirect costs is illustrated in the next slide.
(Refer to the chapter, along with Figure 19-2, for full details about this example.)
Figure 19-2 Estimated Economic Impact of a New Specialist in a Physician Practice.
Other EstimatesOther commonly used computations are actually estimates. For example, the weighted average inventory cost described in Chapter 9 is in fact an estimate.
Performance MeasuresA variety of performance measures must be in place for the organization. Many types of such measures are available. Generally different organizations lean toward using one type over another.
Performance MeasuresAdjusted performance measures over time.We have previously discussed the advantages of comparative analysis—the comparison of various time periods, one to another. Measures that compare performance over various time periods are especially effective.Figure 19-3 illustrates measures over time combined with a two-part case mix adjustment.
Financial BenchmarkingBenchmarking is the continuous process of measuring products, services, and activities against the best levels of performance. The best levels may be found inside the organization or outside it.
Benchmarking (1 of 3)There are three types of benchmarks:A financial variable reported in an accounting systemA financial variable not reported in an accounting systemA nonfinancial variableBenchmarks are used to measure performance gaps.
Benchmarking (2 of 3)
How do you benchmark? Three possible methods include:Studying the methods and results of your prime competitors;Examining the process of noncompetitors with a world-class ...

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by seizures. Seizures occur when there is a sudden, abnormal burst of electrical activity in the brain. The main symptoms of epilepsy include seizures, which can vary depending on where in the brain the abnormal electrical activity initiates. Common seizure types include tonic-clonic seizures, previously known as grand mal, and absence seizures, previously known as petit mal. Epilepsy affects people of all ages, with the disorder typically diagnosed either in childhood or among older adults. While epilepsy cannot be cured, treatment aims to control seizures through medication or other therapies.

Building on my prize-winning methods, I designed a novel analysis for existing international innovation data. The OECD produces surveys on Member
Countries every 2 years. “Special Chapters” are introduced periodically to incorporate information on important new drivers of economic improvement.
My results supported the existence of two factors, "Knowledge Development" and "Knowledge Application" and ranked 20 OECD countries on these
dimensions. Extracts from my report were presented by the OECD at the Central Planning Bureau in The Hague, the Netherlands in December, 2005.

Roles: Longitudinal patient, laboratory and genetic data capture design and study implementation.
In this work, I leveraged my clinical trials expertise which was gained from monitoring US Congress-funded protocols at Harvard School of Public
Health. I designed the data capture in 2007 and the collection has continued to yield quality, longitudinal data for publications in high-impact, peer-
reviewed journals. Methods are applicable to surveillance and monitoring of infectious or non-communicable diseases. Laboratory specimen
tracking and quality assessment methods are translatable to phytosanitary disease threat applications. My facilitation and teaching experience
helped me to upskill Hospital and Laboratory Personnel while building capacity for collecting HIV genetic and drug resistance data in the Asia-Pacific.
