The 2G spectrum scam involved the Indian government issuing 122 telecom licenses in 2008 to several companies at 2001 prices, resulting in a 1.76 lakh crore rupee shortfall. A. Raja, the then telecom minister, was accused of undervaluing 2G licenses which were then resold by companies at huge profits. The CAG, CBI, and CVC are investigating the scam, while several politicians, bureaucrats, and journalists are also under scrutiny for their alleged roles. The CPI(M) has demanded cancellation of licenses and a fresh auction to recover losses.
