This white paper discusses various methods for drying compressed air. Refrigerant dryers are most common and use cooling to condense moisture, but are limited to removing water vapor. Adsorption dryers use desiccant beads to adsorb moisture and can achieve lower dew points below freezing. Regeneration of desiccant can be done through cooling or heating. Heating methods include using compressed air heat, ambient air, or a blower. The most economical options are heat of compression dryers that use compressor heat or heated blower purge dryers.
