Client: London Underground (LU)
Scope: As a result of organisational
changes LU commissioned a review
of current signalling installation and
testing activities to identify key issues
and risks, together with
recommendations on short and long
term improvement actions.
When: Completed April 2011
Approach: NuAspect were
commissioned to undertake a “top
down” review, focused on
Management Controls, Critical
External Influences and Attitudes and
Approaches. NuAspect formed a
small team of signalling technical,
domain and quality assurance
experts to undertake the review. The
research methodology used was a
situational assessment of the current
operation (baseline), in comparison
with expectations governed by LU
standards, operating principles and
management systems, as well as
good practice for the activities
being undertaken. The comparison
provided the identification of gaps /
deficiencies and associated risks,
from which options for improvements
were developed.
Result: A summary report was
produced detailing the review
activities, including a series of Interim
Control Measures that were
developed to address the identified
immediate risks, together with longer
term improvement actions to
support a sustained improvement in
signalling installation and testing
activities. The client accepted the
report and adopted the Interim
Control Measures for
implementation, which NuAspect
were also asked to support.
