The Third Week of Lent – A Prayer
Loving Father,
So many times I turn away from you
and always you welcome me back.
Your mercy and love gives me confidence
Thank you for the invitation to share, fast and pray
so that you can form a new heart within me.
Your powerful compassion for my weaknesses
leads me to ask for mercy
and await with great hope the Easter joy you share with us.
Reflection – 3rd
Sunday of Lent
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty or
have to keep coming here to draw water.” (Jn 4:5-42)
The Samaritan woman is intrigued by the ―living water‖ Jesus offers her. She
likes the idea of never being thirsty or having to lug a bucketful of water back
to her home every day. The added benefit: she would not have to come to the
well in the heat of the day, so as to avoid the other women who come in the
morning. The others look down on her for her sinful life and she is ashamed to
show her face. Jesus offers a ―one and done‖ proposition. But there’s a catch
to Jesus’ living water as we see played out in the story. The more Jesus talks,
the more excited the woman becomes. She begins to understand his message
and she runs to get all the people from her village—the very people she has
tried so hard to avoid.
