Holy Week - Reflection
This week we begin the greatest of all Christian journeys with Jesus. We enter Jerusalem with
him on Sunday waving the palm and spend time in his company listening to his words. We are
invited to look around at the religious leaders and note the tide turning against Jesus. Let us
ponder on Judas as we enter Spy Wednesday. On Holy Thursday the invitation is to walk with
Jesus and his Disciples right into the upper room. Here we can experience the institute of the
Eucharist, Do this in Memory. Let us reflect on the various disciples, Peter, James and John
and watch as Judas moved away from the table. Later that night we are invited into the Garden
of Olives, under the stillness of the night and the shadows of moonlight. We hear the words, If it
is your will, but if not, let it be as you not I would wish.
As we enter Good Friday the peace is shattered as we enter the courtyard. We are called to note
the Roman army, Herod and Pilot, Mary and the Disciples lurking in the background. Here we
note that sentence is pronounced and Jesus walks to Calvary and crucifixion. And then on
Easter Sunday morning, we find that we are part of the resurrection Story, he is not here, he has
risen.
This year, let us be part of the Holy Week journey in words, actions and prayer.
