Ons hele digitale leven lijkt zich af te spelen in de browser (althans wat betreft PC- en laptopgebruik). Vandaag worden bijna alle toepassingen dan ook als een online dienst ('cloud' software) aangeboden: webmail, kalender, adresboek, documentbeheer, sociale media, kantoortoepassingen, ... Met lichte overdrijving zou je kunnen stellen dat de browser goed op weg is om het 'laatste en enige lokale programma' te vormen (zie ook 'ChromeOS', Google's 'cloudgeörienteerde' besturingssysteem).
In deze workshop overlopen we de belangrijkste functionaliteiten van Firefox (Mozilla) en van Chrome/Chromium (Google), de twee populairste browsers op Linux. We behandelen de belangrijkste functies (zoals 'omnibox' en 'awesome bar'), we bekijken de privacy-aspecten (wachtwoordbeheer, incognitomodus, cookies, ...), synchronisatiemogelijkheden, extensies en plugins.
DigiPinguïns is een maandelijkse bijeenkomst van Linux-gebruikers en open-source-enthousiastelingen. - 2. Installing NetVault on Linux and Solaris Configuring SCSI Devices 1. Make note of library and tape drive SCSI IDs by checking the hardware settings. 2. If you are using Linux, skip to Step 5. If you are using Solaris, proceed from Step 3. 3. On Solaris only, check the st.conf file to be sure that the drive types, drive configuration line, and relevant address and target ID range has the comment at the beginning of the line removed. Note: Linux does not use an st.conf file. 4. On Solaris only, make sure that the /dev/rmt directory is empty (rm*). Use the reboot -- -r command, which will ultimately rebuild the rmt directory. Note: Linux does not have an rmt directory. 5. Do an mt or tar command to the drives to confirm that the devices can communicate with the drives. For example: mt -t /dev/rmt/<devfile> status tar -cvf /dev/rmt/<devfile> /etc Caution: Do not delete the existing Linux device files. NetVault Installation 1.
