Introduction to pop music
 Pop music, short for popular, is music genre
where the music is ever-changing, but has a
wide appeal and is favored by the public
 Pop music began to be applied specifically in
the middle of the 20th century.
 Because of the new technological innovations
and the development to record and distribute
music, artists are able to gain quick fame
nationwide
 It contrasts to art and traditional music which
are usually listened by smaller, local
audiences.
History of pop
 Pop music has its peak of popularity in the
mid-1950s prior to the popularity of rock and
roll and after big bands.
 Traditional pop music of the 1950s are music
that was popular before rock music became
the mainstream music in the mid 1950s.

 It is a popular genre of music within the 50s
and 60s in America.
 Has roots in European Celtic music
 Its name is derived from a popular slang term
in rhythm and blues.
