Hey Dyer,
New Playground equipment is planned for the
following parks and will be installed by the end of May:
Eberly, Elmer Miller, Hearthstone and Veterans.
We hope you enjoy these updates.
Henry David Thoreau wrote “…for I was rich, if not
in money, in sunny hours and summer days, and
I spent them lavishly…” After a very successful
winter and spring session, we are all looking
forward to living lavishly in the sunny summer days
ahead!
Our projects at Hearthstone, Eberly, Veterans,
and Elmer-Miller Parks are finishing up, and we are
thrilled that everyone can enjoy those four new
playgrounds, and a couple new walking paths this
summer. As you flip through the pages that follow,
you’ll see that we are planning for a busy season
with our ever-popular Summer Camps, sports
programs, and a wide variety of other events and
programs. We will continue several free events
including Concerts in the Park, Music in the Park,
and Popcorn in the Park - check-out the dates
on pages 17, 19 & 22, and plan to join us for some
family fun time! Pavilion and Plum Creek Center
reservations for the season have already begun,
so be sure to contact us as you make plans for
your summer get-togethers.
I would like to extend a big thank you to all of the
people who work hard to make our programs,
events, and upgrades so successful; as well as a
heartfelt thanks to our former Board president,
Dane Huebner for his years of service. I am
excited to be serving Dyer as the new President
of the Parks and Recreation Board. There is a
lot going on behind the scenes to plan Central
Park, and to make sure that we’re meeting the
needs of our residents through our parks, facilities,
events, and programs. We are thankful for the
continued support we receive from our neighbors
in the community. You are invited to attend and
offer input at any of our monthly meetings: our
study sessions are the fourth Tuesday of each
month, and business meetings are the second
Tuesday, at 6pm in the Town Hall. Otherwise,
you can probably find me around town with my
four children, making good use of the parks this
summer!
I hope to meet you soon,
Zara Fagen
Park Board President

Research has proven that when children play, their brains are busy building
connections that help them learn and understand. When the little ones see

classes are built around an educational component that parents and educators
love. During the class, we guide children through the steps of following a model
to build a creation, brick-by- brick. And as each DUPLO Brick is snapped into
place, the children at play are also developing essential skills they will need for
kindergarten, such as: • Letter recognition • Counting • Patterns • Fine-motor

FAMILY AND STUDENT WORKSHOPS
“Learning How to Learn:
Skills and Strategies for Academic Success”
The key to successful learning is knowing
HOW TO LEARN
“Learning How to Learn” is a student-support program that takes tutoring a step
further. When students know HOW to learn, they are able to reach academic and
personal success. These 9 critical skills and strategies are essential for students to
do more than learn content in school; they lay the foundation for understanding.
In the Parent and Family Workshop, participants will learn how to guide their
students in building critical learning habits and practices that lead to academic
success. Parents will learn about strategies that will support their children
academically at school and at home.
In eight (8) Student Workshops, students will gain solid learning habits and
practices that lead to academic success. At each workshop, students will learn
how to develop structured learning routines and how to organize homework
time and school learning time. Over the 4-week, 8- session course, they will learn
how to get the most out of learning activities in the classroom, how to make
homework time organized and efficient, and practice key reading and test-taking
strategies. Students will be able to develop habits for academic and personal
success.
The workshops are designed and led by Dr. Marg De Roo, a Dyer resident, who
works with students and families on Personal Academic Plans that help students
establish solid learning skills that take them from Pre-K - 12 and beyond.

ever written... Fleetwood Mac,
Lucinda Williams, Little Big Town,
Al Green, Pat Benatar, and more.

backed by some of the regions best
musicians! This band plays anything

Dawn BandEveryone LOVES the StingRays Rock &
Roll, from Rockabilly – tons of Sixties – to
the 70’s. Their music, great rapport with
audiences and look & moves, have
made them festival favorites throughout
the Midwest – filling dance floors (and
lawns) the entire night.
Born and raised in the Chicago region. Jack
developed an interest in music early on
and has since created a lot of varied music
(indie rock to metal). His musical inspira-
tions and interests are broad and deep but
a roots music influence is always present.
From Chicago blues to Memphis soul to
Americana. He also loves Funk, Folk, and
old religious tunes. Finger picking, sliding,
and shouting, a passionate performer.
