7. Leadership Meeting
There will be a Leadership Meeting on Thursday,
September 27th, in room 16 right after school to plan
this year’s events.
If you are in grades 7 - 12 and interested in planning
events for the school, please come!
Every class in grade 7-9 should send at least 1
representative! Have your voice heard!

8. Magazine Campaign
The annual Magazine Campaign Fundraiser “kick off” will be on
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018, for our jr. high students. Funds
raised will be used to support student activities at the school.
Renew your favourite subscriptions, order new titles, or give
magazine subscriptions as gifts. Our Jr. High students will be
coming around with catalogues and order forms, they will also
have access to online sales. Make cheques payable to
“Barrhead Composite High School”. You can order online at
www.QSP.ca by using our school group number “3693074”. All
orders placed online will receive “double points” for the student.
Collection days will be October 10th, 17th, and 24th in the
student’s English class.

20. Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest and
most prestigious undergraduate Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
scholarships in Canada, with a value of up to
$100,000 each. Fifty students receive this celebrated
award each year.
Barrhead Composite can nominate one student. Even
if you are not recipient of the scholarship, it is an
honor to be nominated

22. POST-SECONDARY UPDATES
Over the next few weeks, updates for the post-secondary
schools in Alberta will be featured in announcements.
They will generally be a week prior to the open house
for the school.
Slides will be posted in the north hallway for reference.
Out-of-province schools will be featured as information
becomes available.
If you require more information, see the specific school
website, check for a view book in the back corner of the
library or speak with Ms Wegner in Room 24.

Most of their programs are full by May, so do apply

24. Partners with U of A for Science, Engineering and
Education, NAIT for Business, U of C for Social Work,
Mount Royal for Environmental Science
You only need 75% to get into the Bachelor of Science,
Nursing, but it is first-qualified, first admitted so apply
early
Need 70% to enter the Engineering and then 2.5 to
transfer
They have a one-year visual arts transferrable to ACAD
Residence is cheaper than other schools, starting at $600
a month

25. They have a 2-year Power Engineering program with a
paid internship of around $50 000 each year. They have
September and February intake for this.
For shorter-term learning, consider the six-week heavy
equipment operator or the four-week haul truck
operator courses.
After the fire, enrolment has gone down, so this is a good
time to consider Keyano, it may not be as competitive to
be admitted.

suits your lifestyle.
You can start earning your degree there or you can
obtain post-secondary education someplace else and
continue there, while working.
Many of their students have a 2-year diploma and then
work towards a degree
They also offer a few diploma and certificate programs.
They have now created a virtual exam space so you no
longer need to find an approved testing location
The cost for a course includes all resources and if books
are needed, they are mailed to you
