2. Plans for Up-Coming Season
• Depending on the quantity of Breeder Seed Yam minitubers
that will be made available by NRCRI, the NASC intends to
increase the number of participating Seed Companies to
eight to cover major yam producing areas of Nigeria.
• Proposes to have at least 15,000 minitubers of the varieties
to effectively engage the five companies for FS Yam; 3,285
FSII minitubers for CS Yam and 7,729 FSI tubers for FSII.
• Have a target of about 35,000 minitubers output of FS and
4,500 minitubers of CS from the above input.
• Conduct training for 35 Seed Production/ Certification
Officers & Seed Yam Outgrowers on Seed Yam Production
and Quality Management Protocol.

• Register Seed Fields of all classes and continue to
provide field inspection and certification services
to seed yam producers engaged in the YIIFSWA
Project.
• Encourage identified commercial seed yam
producers under the project to upscale to be
registered and licensed as entrepreneurs for that
purpose to operate in the seed industry.
• Launch the first Certified Seed Yam sales to ware
yam producers.

4. Sustenance Plans
• Identify and engage more seed yam producers at
community base level that will produce and sell to local
ware yam producers under the NASC Community Seed
Diffusion programme.
• Encourage more Seed Companies to go into commercial
seed yam production.
• Link Seed Yam producers to seed yam markets.
• Collaborate with mandate Research Institute and
researchers to characterize and conduct trials of popular
land races for official release.
• Work towards ensuring that Yam Value Chain is addressed
in the Agricultural Agenda of the present government.
