Moreover, what about Test, Release, and Deployment? We always value data and call our organizations “data-driven,” but now the impact is even more significant. If you are using an ML component, misused/dirty/problematic data will affect not your internal reports as before… but your application deployment and quality of service. Let’s hear discuss some AI implementations stories (its advantages/problems) finding common mistakes and future challenges for such a hyped theme.

We had the best intentions, however, this story does NOT have a happy ending.
Learn from my experience working with the leaders of a department of 40 to attempt 100% TDD adoption. I will contrast this with our successful adoption and spread of SOLID design practices, and look at what we would have done differently with our TDD advocacy if we were to repeat it. Some of our lessons learned: Don't try to mandate TDD, bring in outside experts, and refactoring skills are key.

To add even more pain, most people seem to be entirely unaware of the core basis of Agile which is the idea to embrace change but inspect and adapt to that change. Are we lost as an industry? Is there anyway we can recover from this problem? In this session, attendees can expect to engage in a conversation about the rise of the Agile community, the negative and positive impact it has had on the industry, and how you individually can help your organizations and teams lower the risk of encountering the negative problems, and speed your way towards the positives. Topics will include: - The intentions behind agile - Ways you can rework or improve your not so great agile situation - Things you should avoid from the start.
A customer of us asked to give a presentation on DevOps and Agile. Having a mixed audience, Agile experienced Developers, testers but people from the Business and Ops to, I decided to link Agile and DevOps in a logical story. In this presentation I explain the step from SCRUM to DevOps. Starting with why we want to do SCRUM, the challenges I see we are struggling with in daily live, and make the step to Scaling Agile (e.g. Less, DaD, SAFe). Scaling Agile scales its defects too. So we should fix your problems before scaling them. What will happen if you enter the world of Continues Integration and Deployment. Isn't that Scaling Agile too? What does this mean for the defects in you dev - process?

Lot’s of teams don’t think about reflecting their development workflow in Git and just use it out-of-the-box. Git, however, can be much more powerful, giving your team a boost in productivity, protecting your delivery pipeline and helping you to work better together.
In this session we will start with a central workflow that is used by a lot of Subversion teams. You will learn how to practically integrate ALM solutions like continuous deployment, code reviews, change tracking and much more into your individual workflow. You will find out how to protect your master branch from accidental commits, broken builds and unreviewed code. Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features.
