AWARENESS AWARDS
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Roadway Work Zone SafetyAwareness Awards Program is a
competition designed by the American Road & Transportation
Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation
(ARTBA-TDF) to honor outstanding efforts to reduce roadway
work zone construction accidents, injuries and fatalities.
Successful achievements are recognized through the bestowal of
an award and publicity efforts spotlighting the winners. By being
recognized as industry leaders, winners of a Roadway Work Zone
Safety Awareness Award will serve as an example to other
organizations for continuous improvement and advancement of
safety in construction work zones. Awards will be presented in
conjunction with the ARTBA National Convention, September
27-29, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pa.
The awards are divided into the following categories:
• Outreach Campaigns
1. National
2. State/Regional
3. Local/Municipal
• Training
1. National
2. State/Regional
3. Local/Municipal
• Innovations in Technology
1. Product
2. Methodology
ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to individuals and organizations, based
upon submissions concerning a specific program, campaign,
research and/or news article, story, series, or innovation. There
is no limit to the number of entries an organization may submit,
provided that the applications are for different programs, or for
entries of a single program in multiple categories.
Entries are open to projects, products, news accounts, campaigns,
etc. that may have been recognized in other award programs. A
project may be submitted for competition in more than one
category, providing it meets the terms of the category for which it
is submitted. All programs or products submitted must be
published, disclosed or substantially completed prior to the
application closing date.
CATEGORIES
Outreach Campaigns
This category recognizes specific public outreach campaigns or
safety programs by national, state or local agencies and firms
aimed at improving work zone safety. It is open to government,
private, or public/private joint efforts. The target audience for the
outreach campaign may be any group that is impacted by roadway
construction, including motorists, pedestrians, and/or workers.
Worker Training
This category recognizes specific training programs by public or
private sector organizations, with national, state or local scope,
targeted towards improving the safety of workers impacted by
roadway construction.
Innovations in Technology
This award category is open to manufacturers of all types of
equipment or methodologies that integrate develop, or market
innovative technologies; or that demonstrate innovative
applications of existing technologies. This category seeks to
recognize the important role that technology plays in improving
safety in and around work zones for workers and motorists alike.
Products entered in this category must be available to consumers
at the time of application and must include a reference list of five
customers with contact information.
APPLICATION REVIEW
Within all categories, submissions will be evaluated against
submissions of a similar nature, as outlined in each award
category. The projects which solicit the greatest number of votes
in each category will be selected as the winners.
However, in each category, multiple awards may be given, based
upon program size and audience. Likewise, if the determination
is made that no submissions in a category meet the criteria as
outlined, an award in that category may not be issued.
Furthermore, awards may be presented for submissions that do
not solicit the greatest number of votes in a category, yet
nevertheless show exceptional merit. Submissions which receive
such recognition are not precluded from resubmitting an
application for the same category in a subsequent year.
A winning Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Award will be
given to only one individual or organization—the award will be
given to the individual or organization named on the entry form
as the applicant. Citations of recognition may be awarded to
other individuals or organizations that contributed to the success
of the submission. Additional awards may be purchased.
