Characterization of biodegradable poly(3 hydroxybutyrate-co-butyleneadipate) ...Giuseppe Puzzo
Copolymers containing (R)-3 hydroxybutyric acid (HB), 1,4-butanediol (B), and adipic acid (A) were synthesized by microwave assisted transesterification of biodegradable poly(R-3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(1,4-butyleneadipate) (PBA) in solution at different reaction times, composition of the starting mixture, and amount of 4-toluenesulfonic acid, used as a catalyst. The copolyesters were characterized with regard to their molecular weights, thermal properties, molar composition, and average block length of repeating units by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXS), 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR, respectively. Random and microblock copolymers could be obtained depending on experimental conditions, with weight-average molecular weight of up to 17000. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of all samples lay in the range between the Tgs of PBA and PHB, while their structure varied from partially crystalline to totally amorphous. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectra of copolymers allowed us to ascertain that they were hydroxyl and carboxyl chain-end terminated.
This document proposes a sewerage system project for Pakistan to address current deficiencies. It outlines technical approaches like using gravity and pumping stations to move wastewater out of cities to be recycled before releasing into canals or for agricultural use. The document discusses an online grammar checker called Grammarly and its potential benefits for students and instructors. It notes that university assessments found students' grammar, punctuation, and style to be lacking. Grammarly could help address this issue by providing instant feedback on student papers, improving their final presentation. For instructors, it could free up time allowing them to focus on higher-level content and rhetorical issues rather than grammar. The document also provides links to Grammarly's free online handbook and question/answer resources.

It mentions Phoebe Nora Mary Prince, who experienced bullying, and outlines some types and causes of bullying as well as consequences. The document proposes solutions to bullying at the local, national, corporate and individual levels and provides bibliographic references for further information.
7. Professor Carenza Lewis - The Black DeathDigVentures
The document discusses assessing the impact of the Black Death through archaeological and documentary evidence. It provides examples of archaeological evidence from excavations of rural medieval settlements in eastern England that show a decline in pottery-producing pits in the late medieval period, correlating with historical accounts of population decline during the Black Death pandemic in the 14th century. Test pits have revealed variation in population levels across space and time, helping assess where depopulation occurred at a local level. The findings provide new evidence that the observed archaeological results were likely due to actual demographic changes rather than changes in pottery disposal practices.

The document summarizes the work of the Severn Estuary Levels Research Committee from 1991-2005. The committee was made up of amateurs and professionals from universities, local authorities, heritage organizations, and archaeological contractors. Their goals were to coordinate, promote, and disseminate research on the archaeology of the Severn Estuary region, and to provide an academic overview of archaeological and environmental research. Over the years, they produced annual reports, conferences, publications, and field meetings to share knowledge about sites dating back 10,000 years that have been uncovered throughout the estuary.
Building Stones: Elliot Carter (Earth Heritage Trust)RCAHMW
1. The project aims to rediscover local stone quarries in Herefordshire and Worcestershire that were used for building, research the people and techniques involved, and create a database connecting individual buildings to their stone sources.
2. Case studies describe challenges in determining the stone sources for individual buildings, such as Worcester Bridge, due to limited documentation and obscured original stone. Volunteer research into historical records has provided new information on quarrying.
3. Successes include dedicated work from volunteers that has uncovered previously unknown details, but open-ended research nature presents challenges in directing efforts and ensuring standardized results. A new database website is being developed to showcase the collected data.
The history of archaeology has evolved from early antiquarians collecting artifacts to a scientific discipline using modern techniques. Early archaeologists in the 18th-19th centuries established museums and opened archaeology to public interest. By the 1920s, archaeology emerged as a science using multidisciplinary approaches. Recent decades have seen refinements of excavation methods and theory alongside increasing contributions from natural sciences.
This graduate case study analyzes a large rotational slump in North Dakota through geological, soil, and economic perspectives. Drone and geospatial analysis were used to morphologically describe the slump and estimate an impacted area of 4,722 sqm and displaced soil volume of 26,903 cu m. Laboratory particle size analysis found higher silt and clay content than field observations. The slump was likely caused by interaction of loose sediments and groundwater flow in geologically unstable sediments. The estimated economic loss to the farmer was $26,000.
The document summarizes community outreach activities conducted as part of the Orkney Gateway to the Atlantic Project on the island of Rousay in Orkney, Scotland in 2012. Archaeology is the systematic scientific study of past human cultures through the recovery and analysis of artifacts. The goal is to answer questions about how humans lived, including what they ate, where they lived, their social structures, technologies, and more. Archaeologists recover artifacts through excavation and analyze them using various scientific techniques to reconstruct past lifeways and cultures. Key aspects of archaeology include it being question-driven, systematic in its recovery and analysis of artifacts, and focused on understanding past human behaviors and cultures.
Archaeology involves carefully digging up and studying artifacts and remains to piece together clues about past civilizations. Over time, soil erosion and other natural and human processes have buried evidence of ancient human activity deeper underground. By combining small finds with other evidence, archaeologists work to solve the puzzle of past human life, though their work preserves only a fraction of what once existed.
The Indus Valley Civilization flourished around 4000-1000 BC along the Indus River valley in modern-day Pakistan and northwestern India. Two major cities, Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, had advanced architecture with standardized brick sizes and street layouts, as well as water and drainage systems. The civilization engaged in extensive trade of materials like copper, bronze and ivory. Though no religious buildings have been found, seals depict gods and evidence suggests religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. The Indus people developed innovative techniques in metallurgy, craft-making, and agriculture along the Indus River.
This document discusses both problems and opportunities in archaeology in North West England. Some of the key threats mentioned include lack of protection from development without planning regulations, heritage closures, unchecked metal detecting, arson and vandalism. However, the document also outlines opportunities such as volunteer and community archaeology groups, research projects making use of new technologies, and raising awareness of lesser known but important archaeological sites through publications and dissemination.

41. Conclusion: Enhancing research through engaged scholarly
community crowdsourcing
• Community crowd-sourcing can be used to instigate, execute, finance and expand valid,
important and useful humanities research which would otherwise be impossible
• Community crowd-sourcing can very effectively increase the scholarly and social reach,
benefits and impact of humanities research.
• Academic input provides structure and support as well as the connectivity and
contextualisation needed to make the outputs of community-sourced research greater than
the sum of their parts, enhancing their impact and reflexively facilitating further engagement.
