Beans and Rice is a nonprofit that provides afterschool programs to improve economic well-being and academic achievement. It hosted a workshop about developing STEM clubs for afterschool programs. The first year of clubs focused on hovercrafts but had challenges around teacher buy-in and communication. For the second year, Beans and Rice received 12 club applications and selected 9 clubs focusing on topics like engineering, cooking, and film-making. The presentation provided recommendations for improving the club program selection process.
