Disruptive Innovation Open Technology TriadMichael Chege
The introduction of the IBM PC in 1981 was a watershed in the computer industry. IBM's real breakthrough, however, was not the IBM PC itself but the "open architecture" approach it adopted for the project.
Similarly, the principle of open technology which underlies the Internet now threatens to disrupt conventional thinking about such things as the nature of economic production, the social function of software, and even the future of the mobile telecommunications industry. This presentation provides a brief introduction to the concept of open technology and what it means for the status quo.

Addressing the question of trust and blockchains requires to remember the context in which Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper was issued in December 2008 : it was a few months after the subprime crisis and the fall of Lehman Brothers, at a time when the trust in people was extremely challenged, both in their ability to process numbers without mistake, as well as their tendency to operate behind others back. It was a time where libertarians would trust machines and distrust people.
In a way, The Economist « The Trust Machine » could be interpreted as « trust the machines / distrust the middle people »
The challenge of introducing the topic in 10 min is a huge one, as both trust and blockchains are very flexible and often misunderstood notions.
We have covered many facets of trust across yesterday including trust in the future epitomised by our past icons Igor & Grichka. Still, the essence of trust does rely not in technology but in people first.
Professor Yuval Harari’s « Sapiens » essay is an inspiring and powerful reminder that what made mankind emerge from other species is its unsurpassed ability to cooperate at large scale, and with remote strangers.
Trust is the core enabler for cooperation and applies to people as well as actions.

The Open Compute Project Foundation is a community of engineers around the world, whose mission is to design and enable the delivery of the most efficient server, storage, networking and data center hardware designs for scalable computing. We believe that openly sharing ideas, specifications and other intellectual property is the key to maximizing innovation, accelerating market change and reducing operational complexity in the scale compute space. The Open Compute Project Foundation provides a structure, in which individuals and organizations can share their intellectual property as new or existing projects. The Open Compute Project has demonstrated value creation, as exampled by the adoption of open compute product, the contribution of technologies from the hardware supply chain and the genesis of new companies taking advantage of the opportunity. The Open Compute Project is focused on creating an incubation channel that will host an IP library lowering barriers to entry into the enterprise hardware market and enabling a next generation of hardware companies.

Open Compute Project designs have already been implemented by the operators of Hyperscale Data Centers such as Facebook, Google and Rackspace and the large colos such as Equinix and many of the American banks, as they see the adoption of open source hardware as a way to accommodate for the high demand for their services.
To help and encourage the colocation companies across the world to be ready for the demand from customers to house their OCP IT Gear in Open Racks the OCP Data Center project is to produce a document and checklist that will enable a colo vendor to compare their facility with the functional needs of Open Racks. These racks will most likely be delivered to the colo fully populated with server, storage, switches and power shelves to make the deployment that much easier and more environmentally friendly (minimal packing materials) as an added benefit.
All of the sub systems in the Data Center white space will need to be considered when checking for OCP readiness, be it the structural aspects such as the access door height and width, rolling and static floor loading, electrical systems distribution to provide non-centralized UPS 3 phase supplies, the cooling aspects such as the need for hot aisle containment and the network architecture to allow for a leaf-spine implementation using single mode fibre.

The Microsoft cloud ecosystem evolved considerably in recent years to interoperate with a wide range of open source technologies, including hardware (Open Compute), cloud software platforms (OpenStack), networking (Open vSwitch, OpenDaylight) and orchestration (Juju, Heat).
During this session we will show how to deploy in no time an entire OpenStack cloud based on Microsoft Hyper-V using MaaS and Juju. Networking is going to be based on Open vSwitch, which brings OVSDB and VXLAN to Hyper-V, allowing full interoperability with KVM and other hypervisors.
To conclude, we are going to orchestrate with Juju on top of our OpenStack cloud some of the most common Microsoft workloads, including Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server, SharePoint and Exchange, side by side with open source applications.
Cloud Computing is one of transformational technology shifts that is the most misunderstood. Many businesses, individuals fear how cloud would affect their daily lifes, from security, privacy and changes in their daily life. Fortunately, this is a technology that can be embraced in phases. Your business can seize this opportunity and make it as one of your competitive strategy.
The 2013 Future of Cloud Computing 3rd Annual Survey was conducted in partnership with GigaOM Research and 57 industry collaborators. It focuses on Cloud adoption, growth, investment, and key trends emanating from the 2011 and 2012 surveys. 2015 North Bridge Future of Cloud Computing Study, with Wikibon |Broadest exploration of cloud trends, cloud migration & evolution of the cloud computing sector. Survey participation was the largest to date and included responses from 38 countries. 50 collaborators supported the 5th Annual Future of Cloud Computing study, which reveals that cloud has become an accepted and integral technology. Furthermore, the study shows that despite deployment gaps among clouds, we should expect a future powered by hybrid cloud technologies. The question of whether companies are using the cloud has morphed to how deeply cloud adoption is integrated within the business. From the bottom to the top, all products and services will in some way be powered by the cloud making the promise of goods and services that have the potential to be better tomorrow than today. IT departments have reclaimed the reins on driving company technology strategy and cloud adoption as roles, skills and processes have shifted. Importantly, We’re also seeing the emergence of the cloud as the only way businesses can truly get more out of their data including analyzing and executing on it real-time. On the investment front, 2015 could tip the scale from private to public capital for SaaS companies.
This slides are prepared to introduce the public on the IT Technology which has gain a lot of attention by either small and big companies. It is not only gain attention but also being used by big companies such as Google, Twitter, Facebook and Amazon. The technology is called Free Software or also known as Open Source Software. The concept behind this technology is SHARING. Through sharing, This concept has been here nearly 40 years ago. Internet is one the examples that use this technology. The main concept is about FREEDOM.
