empowering children through music.
Ruth Pelham is a singer, songwriter, educator, and activist who brings her unique vision of world peace and social change
to children and adults around the globe. Ruth’s music touches the heart and reflects the full integrity of the human spirit
through her powerful anthems like “Turning of the World” and “Under One Sky.”
She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, surrounded by a vibrant folk music scene. During college she became a songwriter, raising
hervoice against injustice and sowing the seeds for the development of her pioneering work as a cultural worker and
community builder.
In 1977, Ruth proposed the idea of the Music Mobile, a colorful van that would travel to parks, playgrounds, and public
housing sites to engage children in interactive programs that foster cooperation, self-esteem, neighborhood pride, and
appreciation of diversity. The Music Mobile continues to this day with Ruth as the Executive Director.Activities include
group singing, songwriting, instrument building and cooperative games, as well as anti-violence initiatives.

and Sri Lanka. As a consultant for the Havasupai Tribe in the Grand Canyon, Ruth aided their efforts to stop a uranium mine
by writing songs with K – 8 students, then creating a recording to help raise funds and public awareness.
Ruth’s songs have been influential in both children’s and folk music, and in movements for social change and justice.
Her songs have been recorded and performed by many artists including Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert and Holly Near.
As a founding member of the Children’s Music Network and a board member for manyyears, Ruth has given her talents

ON STAGE
• Due to time constraints, each individual, duo, or group is entitled to only one performance slot.
• Please do notgive anyintroduction toyoursong otherthan the title and thewriter. Ifthe songyou have chosen absolutely
needs an intro, consider singing it at another time during the weekend.
• Please limityour on-stage time to 3 minutes max.
PARTICIPATION
•Whenyou decide to become partofthe Round Robin, please plan on staying forthe entire session;thatwaythosewho sing
later on in the program will have as many people present as those who sing earlier.
• We’ve set aside several hours for the Round Robin and will do our best to assure that everyone who wants a turn gets one.
In the event that we have more performers than time slots, names will be selected at random from the“Young People”and
“Adult” cans.We will post a list for presenting order.
ENERGIZERS
Energizers are large-group activities that get our energy up after we’ve been sitting and listening for a long time. Often,
the best ones combine movement and singing. This year, energizers will be counted as regular performance slots: a given
performerorgroup maypresenta song oran energizerbutnotboth.Ifyourpiece would be considered an energizer, please
indicate this on your signup sheet. This will help the MCs with sequencing.
SONG SELECTION
Selecting the right song will add to the spirit of the Round Robin in a positive way. Please take these considerations into
account:
Songs need to be shorter than three minutes and require no introduction.
Songs that reflect CMN values are encouraged.
Songs that are humorous, orjust for fun, are also highlyvalued!
Folks are looking to learn new songs, so new and enriching material is also highlyvalued!
Even though our audience is mostly adults,we are all interested in the songs you sing for children.
ACCOMPANIMENT
Many performers will simply accompany themselves on guitar, or even sing a cappella. Others have fun seeking out
musicians to perform with. In some cases groups will perform, some of which are professional touring acts, and others of
which are formed on the spot. This diversity is part of what makes the Round Robin fun, which is one reason we ask that
no one configuration of musicians perform more than one song. A message wall will be provided to assist you in finding
accompanists and/or offering your services as an accompanying musician.

THANKYOU!
As we all know, CMN is a member organization that is funded primarily by membership dues, business sponsorships,
and through monies raised at the conference and the year-round generosity of our members. The CMN board is proud
and grateful to introduce our Sustaining Donors. These are people who have committed to contribute a certain amount
annually to CMN for each of the next three years.
We thank all of donors and encourage each member to help us better plan our budget by becoming a Sustaining Donor.
