November 2017
Dear Members,
There have been some wonderful opportunities for members to do something different recently. A
big thankyou to Robin Cole and the Pioneer Trust for treating 12 members to a very memorable last
sail of the season in the Pioneer. A good time was had by all.
Last Friday’s Nights talk; ‘North to the Arctic Circle and Beyond’ by John and Anne Sadd was just
amazing. Such fantastic photos and great insights on where to go and how to get there. Really
enjoyable. This sees the end of the Autumn series of Talks. We will be lining up more talks, aimed at
in improving skills, for the future.
This week the Club 100 Draw, rolls over to £100 on Friday. Last week Theresa Gibbons was not in the
clubhouse, so missed out on a £90 prize. Remember, you need to be in the Clubhouse at 9:00pm to
win.
Fireworks
What can be said about Saturday’s Firework Event? Unbelievable! I can only estimate, but there
could easily have been more than 2000 people here. The atmosphere was just amazing and very laid
back. The BBQ and Beer Shed were really busy. The bonfire was a huge success and the Fireworks
incredible! The club was buzzing!
There are just so many people to thank, who together made a huge contribution to our success; so
let’s start by saying a big thank you to the Nominated Responsible Person, who dealt so ably with all
the paperwork and the responsibility that goes with that. In addition we had a team of volunteers
and friends who helped with the bonfire building, lighting the fireworks and building a fantastic Guy!
We also had the Comms team on the PA, a team who manned the BBQ (feeding in excess of 600
people), a team on the Bar and a team who set up the beer shed and served beer at the Downstairs
Bar. Our volunteer Marshalls also did such a fantastic job as well as our very important bucket
collectors. The hi viz jacket and twinkly fairy lights all made a big difference!
Cadets had their own stand with luminous toys for the youngsters as well as promoting the cadets to
interested parties. We also relied on Brightlingsea, Tendering and Essex County Councils to provide
approval for the Hard, road closures and safety of the event.
So, very well done to everyone! The Feedback on Social Media has been really positive and that is all
thanks to you! In this day and age, manning a public event is a huge responsibility. We couldn’t have
done it without you. We counted over 50 volunteers, just too many to name individually, but you
were all brilliant.
The Fireworks Team will be holding a quick review on Friday at 8:00pm in the Bar. If anyone would
like to submit comments/suggestions/feedback, please send to Emma by Friday lunchtime and we
will include them in our debrief.
Trophies
We are appealing for all those who won trophies in the 2016 season, to bring them back to the Club,
so they can be presented at this year’s Laying Up Supper. If you won a trophy but did not take it
home, please do let us know.
We are also looking for some volunteers who would be willing to come in on Thursday morning to
do some silver polishing. So if you are happy to spare some time to help, please let Emma know on
01206 302594. Thanks to Bruce Long who brought his gloves along and kicked the process off last
week.
Main Committee
Under the Constitution, the Main Committee has co-opted Dave Atkinson on to the Main Committee
with special responsibility for Club Development. Dave has just done a brilliant job as nominated
responsible person for the fireworks display. This role will be discussed further at the Members
Meeting on Saturday.
Boatyard Fees
All boatyard fee invoices have been sent out for winter storage. If you have not paid yet, we
respectfully request payment asap as payments are now overdue.

Bar. It is a dark grey Gill Offshore ‘oilskin’ jacket with a yellow hood in size XL. It also has a multi tool
pocket. Please contact Emma on 01206 302594 if you have any information.
