Effective communication throughout a workplace is an essential ingredient to align people’s efforts towards achieving goals. Yet it seems that ‘communication problems’ are continually mentioned as one of the main difficulties for most organisations.
Your boss, the CEO of ABC Company, has asked you to investigate the issues associated with each of the following four workplace communication strategies:
1. Social media to improve internal and external communication.
2. Communicating to customers.
3. Connecting with employees.
4. Crisis communication developing strategies to protect the reputation of the organisation in a crisis.
Working in groups of four, each student will write on one of the workplace communication strategies.
Please follow these guidelines to complete the assessment:
1. This assessment comprises two parts: a. group-assigned written report b. three-minute individual oral presentation.
2. You will be assigned to a group of four students. Internal students will be given their group in the tutorial; external students will be notified via email.
3. The purpose of this assessment is for you to engage in web-based research. Each student in your group needs to select ONE of the four workplace communication strategies.
4. Start your web-based research with a search of popular business publications, even trade journals, professional journals and current affairs journals, for any information about workplace communication strategies. Finally, use academic research to support your findings in relation to your selected theme.
5. Each student needs to find 8-10 secondary sources for his/her section. Please note you are expected to use a minimum of four (4) refereed academic journals. You will be shown how to tell if a journal is peer reviewed/refereed. Do not include more than 10 references per student.
6. Document using SCU Harvard format.
7. You are encouraged to write a first draft of this report at least one week prior to the due date to ensure adequate time for revision. Please be aware that the writing quality and appropriate referencing will be marked as well as the content.
8. Submit the report Turnitin via the Blackboard site no later than the due date: Friday 2nd February 2018, 9.00am (QLD time). Please note: only one student submits on behalf of their group.
9. In addition to the report each student will be required to give a three minute oral presentation on their respective report section.

a summary of the theory/ies that have informed their project (what main theory/ies have they applied to best target their message to the appropriate audience and why)
an evaluation of the audience for their message
an analysis of the persuasive strategies/techniques they have employed in their message.
All assignments and essays are to be cited either in MLA (Modern Language Association) or in (APA American Press Association) style. (MLA and APA style formatting guides are available in the library and on the Lynn library website).

Students will present their persuasive message in a
5-7 minute
oral presentation in class explaining:
why the message is needed
who is the target audience for the message
what are the main appeals and strategies built into each message and how do they serve the purpose.
Grading:
The project will be graded based on its execution and the extent to which it makes use of persuasive appeals. A major portion of the presentation grade will be based on how well the messages are defended in terms of the major ideas and theories discussed in the course.

You will need to follow the AREA process in chapters 2 and 3 of Your Business Degree (COIT20233 textbook) to analyse the assessment task, research relevant information, evaluate the information you find and to write an academic report in which you present your findings or outcomes and make recommendations on future practice. Your report should be between 2,500 and 3,000 words and contain at least 20 references of
suitable relevance and quality. The word count excludes figures and tables, reference list, and

2015 Iowa State University Equine Program Review
The equine program at Iowa State University aims to provide students with hands-on learning about equine production, management, and science. Courses cover topics such as handling, nutrition, reproduction, and physiology. In 2015, 14 foals were born and used for student training experiences, and 13 yearlings were sold at auction. The Master Equine Manager online certification program, run through ISU Extension, has educated people in 21 states on horse care and completed its 10th year. It provides a comprehensive curriculum not found elsewhere. The program also offers optional hands-on training with veterinarians. Extension activities further support the equine community through clinics, contests, and other outreach.

Vocalization in Horses
Horses communicate through vocalizations that provide information about their identity, physical state, and motivation. Different vocalizations are acoustically distinct and contain expressive components that vary in frequency and duration. Being able to differentiate between distress and positive vocalizations can help horse owners strengthen their bond with horses. Studies analyze the acoustic properties of whinnies, nickers, squeals, groans, blows, and snorts to better define equine communication through vocalizations.
Track Surfaces
Sand makes for the best race track surface according to the document. It has good hardness, structural damping, and friction damping properties which helps reduce hoof impact and shock on horses. Sand can also control friction by adding or removing water, unlike other surfaces like wood chips. While other materials like asphalt, gravel, and wood saw dust are cheaper, they are much harder on horses' hooves, joints and tendons over time.
Strangles in Horses
Strangles is a disease in horses that causes nasal discharge, decreased appetite, fever, and swelling of lymph nodes. Left untreated, the swollen lymph nodes can rupture and drain pus within 7-14 days. Vaccination helps prevent strangles and lessen its symptoms. To diagnose, veterinarians perform blood tests and monitor temperatures twice daily. Treatment includes antibiotics, draining fluid from lymph nodes, and surgically opening swollen nodes. Proper biosecurity protocols like quarantining new horses and preventing equipment sharing between stables can also help control the spread of strangles.

Navicular in Horses
Navicular disease is a chronic condition affecting the navicular bone in the rear hooves of horses that causes severe heel pain. It is most commonly seen in Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, and Quarter Horses between 7-14 years old, and affects geldings more than other horses. Clinical signs include a short, choppy gait; toe-first landing; increased digital pulse; and pain that worsens with work. Treatment options aim to reduce stress on the navicular bone through minimal exercise, corrective shoeing, joint injections, or digital neurectomy. Genetics are believed to play a role in predisposition to navicular disease.
Leptospirosis in Horses
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can cause a condition called Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU), also known as moon blindness or periodic ophthalmia, in horses. The bacteria is shed through the urine of carrier mammals like rats and can infect horses when they come into contact with contaminated water or soil. While classic Leptospirosis often causes mild to severe symptoms in foals and adults, ERU occurs weeks to months after initial infection and is characterized by periodic inflammation of the uvea of the eye, causing pain. There is no vaccine to prevent leptospirosis in horses, but antibiotics like penicillin and streptomycin can treat the infection and early intervention improves prognosis for E

Over 6,800 equine investigations were conducted between 2007 and 2009, with neglect being the most common reason. Neglect cases primarily involved horses with a body condition score of less than 3, typically due to owner ignorance, economic hardship, or lack of responsibility.

- 1. National Association of Equine Affiliated Academics NAEAA 2014: June 24-28 The 2014 NAEAA Conference will be hosted by The University of Louisville Equine Industry Program (EIP) at the University of Louisville’s Shelby Campus conference facilities. See website for early conference details: http://naeaa.com/ 2014 NAEAA Meeting - Call for Abstracts Submissions for Presentations and Poster Session Abstracts may be submitted for either oral or poster presentation format review. The process is a one-time electronic submission to Dr Katrina Merkies at kmerkies@uoguelph.ca with a deadline of Saturday, March 15th. Please ensure that name of the corresponding author is included in the name of the file that is emailed. Authors will be notified of abstract acceptance by Tuesday, April 15th. Abstracts are encouraged from faculty, students, extension associates, administrators, and industry professionals. Presentation and Poster Abstracts will be accepted within the following three areas: 1. Innovations in Equine Education Based on Applications of Scientific Method: Tools/innovations for excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment currently in use within the equine undergraduate discipline. Abstracts for this session are to be based on the scientific method with analysis and interpretation of data. Abstracts are encouraged from all spectrums of the discipline – science, management, equitation science, extension, industry outreach, equine assisted therapy, etc. – and all areas of education including administrative topics such as student recruitment/retention as well as financial sustainability. 2. Innovations in Other Disciplines with Applications to Equine Education: Tools/innovations for excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment being used in other discipline/industry areas that have application for use in the equine undergraduate discipline. Abstracts that demonstrate crosscollaboration between equine and other department/industry areas are encouraged! 3. Educators Tool Box: Presentation of creative or novel things being done in the classroom or in the field (abstracts do not require outcome/assessment data, although it is encouraged). A wide range of topics can be covered including new ideas and approaches to classes, academic programs, extension programs, course material, industry outreach and connection, career exploration and placement. New approaches that have early success and excitement but are not yet fully assessed are welcome. NAEAA abstracts are limited to 750 words and, if accepted, will be published electronically as submitted. Copy should be checked for accuracy, content and typographical errors prior to submission, as accepted abstracts are intended to be printed in the proceedings ‘as submitted’. Abstract acceptance, program scheduling and the form of presentation will be communicated via e-mail only to the person listed as the correspondent.
