How to Achieve Self-Service Analytics with a Governed Data Services Layer (UK)Denodo
Watch full webinar here: https://bit.ly/38F77WN
A successfully implemented self-service initiative means that business users have access to holistic and consistent views of data regardless of its location, source or type. However, companies must also ensure that while unlocking the full potential of data for business users, they maintain security requirements.
Data virtualization as a governed data service layer can not only help organizations achieve a unified data access layer that provides integrated views of data to business users in real time, but also allows the organization to establish governance protocols and specify authoritative sources.
What will we talk about?
- Challenges faced by business users
- How data virtualization enables self-service analytics
- A demonstration
- A customer case study
How do we develop long-term systems that
keep maintenance costs low and reward us with time to innovate with limited development resources?
For researchers developing software expected to exist for long-term science projects, there is one software development practice coding practice, that if employed and mastered, can lead to sustainable, flexible, software that can organically grow as your research needs evolve over time. This practice is called loose coupling.
-------------------------------------
Imagine yourself a farm boy...
By farm boy, I mean, systems engineer...
Your systems are old, outdated...
They require more and more maintenance...
When what you really need to be doing is innovating.
Making you less a systems engineer and more a systems caretaker.
How do reclaim our role of systems engineer? Loose coupling.
-------------------------------------
How do we decide what to loosely couple?
1. Volatile code - code with a likelihood to change over its lifespan
2. Code splatter - similar business logic that exists in more than one place
How do we sustainably innovate with web technologies?
Pick technologies that leverage what *works* about the web architecture

Logical Data Fabric and Data Mesh – Driving Business OutcomesDenodo
Watch full webinar here: https://buff.ly/3qgGjtA
Presented at TDWI VIRTUAL SUMMIT - Modernizing Data Management
While the technological advances of the past decade have addressed the scale of data processing and data storage, they have failed to address scale in other dimensions: proliferation of sources of data, diversity of data types and user persona, and speed of response to change. The essence of the data mesh and data fabric approaches is that it puts the customer first and focuses on outcomes instead of outputs.
In this session, Saptarshi Sengupta, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Denodo, will address key considerations and provide his insights on why some companies are succeeding with these approaches while others are not.
Watch On-Demand and Learn:
- Why a logical approach is necessary and how it aligns with data fabric and data mesh
- How some of the large enterprises are using logical data fabric and data mesh for their data and analytics needs
- Tips to create a good data management modernization roadmap for your organization

Self-Service BI promises to remove the bottleneck that exists between IT and business users. The truth is, if data is handed over to a wide range of data consumers without proper guardrails in place, it can result in data anarchy.
Attend this session to learn why data virtualization:
• Is a must for implementing the right self-service BI
• Makes self-service BI useful for every business user
• Accelerates any self-service BI initiative
LinkedIn's Logical Data Access Layer for Hadoop -- Strata London 2016Carl Steinbach
Hadoop at LinkedIn has grown significantly over time, from 1 cluster with 20 nodes in 2008 to over 10 clusters with over 10,000 nodes now. The number of users and workflows has also increased dramatically. While hardware scaling is difficult, scaling human infrastructure and managing dependencies between data producers, consumers, and infrastructure providers is even harder. The Dali system aims to abstract away physical data details and make data easier to access and manage through a dataset API, views, and lineage tracking. Views allow decoupling data APIs from the underlying datasets and enable safe evolution of these APIs through versioning. Contracts expressed as logical constraints on views provide clear, understandable, and modifiable agreements between producers and consumers. This approach has helped large projects
Changing the Curation Equation: A Data Lifecycle Approach to Lowering Costs a...SEAD
This document discusses the Sustainable Environment Actionable Data (SEAD) project, which aims to lower the costs and increase the value of data curation through a data lifecycle approach. SEAD provides lightweight data services to support sustainability research, including secure project workspaces, active and social curation tools, and integrated lifecycle support for data from ingest to long-term preservation. By leveraging technologies like Web 2.0 and standards, SEAD simplifies and automates curation processes using metadata captured from data producers and users. This allows curation activities to begin earlier in the data lifecycle and be distributed across researchers and curators.

Large Bank Leverages the Denodo Platform as the Foundation for a Shift to a D...Denodo
More info here: https://bit.ly/3WtXm5L
Every day, this bank serves customers across 12 U.S. states with reliable, state-of-the art banking services. Increasingly, this has required the bank to seamlessly reach customers and potential customers across multiple channels including in-person, ATM, mobile, and online channels, with digital services running 24/7 under strict levels of speed, availability, and accuracy. To address these needs, the bank planned a digital transformation that included a re-design of the entire data infrastructure.
The bank wanted to move from a traditional, centralized data infrastructure to a modern, decentralized, data mesh infrastructure. The bank leveraged the Denodo Platform as a foundational element for this profound transformation. With the Denodo Platform, the bank established a logical data fabric across the bank’s existing data infrastructure, which enables real-time access to any data source in the organization, without the data consumer needing to know where the source system is located.
The Denodo Platform enabled the bank to meet or exceed all of the company’s expectations for a new data-meshbased infrastructure that could support the bank’s vision for a digital transformation, including robust, domain-driven data marketplaces with data catalog capabilities.

Watch full webinar here: https://bit.ly/2EpHGyd
Presented at Data Champions, Online Asia 2020
Businesses and individuals around the world are experiencing the impact of a global pandemic. With many workers and potential shoppers still sequestered, COVID-19 is proving to have a momentous impact on the global economy. Regardless of the current situation and post-pandemic era, real-time data becomes even more critical to healthcare practitioners, business owners, government officials, and the public at large where holistic and timely information are important to make quick decisions. It enables doctors to make quick decisions about where to focus the care, business owners to alter production schedules to meet the demand, government agencies to contain the epidemic, and the public to be informed about prevention.
In this on-demand session, you will learn about the capabilities of data virtualization as a modern data integration technique and how can organisations:
- Rapidly unify information from disparate data sources to make accurate decisions and analyse data in real-time
- Build a single engine for security that provides audit and control by geographies
- Accelerate delivery of insights from your advanced analytics project
LinkedIn Infrastructure (analytics@webscale, at fb 2013)Jun Rao
This is the presentation at analytics@webscale in 2013 (http://analyticswebscale.splashthat.com/?em=187&utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sg&utm_medium=em)
The document summarizes LinkedIn's experience scaling their Hadoop infrastructure from 1 cluster with 20 nodes and 10 users in 2008 to over 10 clusters with over 10,000 nodes and 1,000 users now. It discusses the challenges of scaling hardware and human infrastructure. It then introduces Dali, LinkedIn's system for managing metadata and data access that aims to make analytics infrastructure invisible through concepts like datasets, views, and lineage tracking. Key aspects of Dali include separating logical and physical concerns, versioning APIs and views, and expressing producer/consumer contracts as constraints.
This document describes a real-time chat application project created by students Tirth Shah and Om Pawar. It discusses what real-time web applications are, provides an overview of the project's scope and technology stack, describes use cases and architectural components, addresses challenges, and outlines the data flow and activity diagrams. Data dictionaries are also included to define the application's user signup and chat data.
The document discusses Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and describes a new open source software project called GeoNode that aims to build an ideal SDI. GeoNode makes uploading, sharing, and working with spatial data as easy as blogging. It provides tools for publishing, styling and creating maps from data. GeoNode also includes user profiles, reputation systems, and federated search to encourage participation and quality contributions to the SDI. The project has ambitious plans to further develop social and group features on its roadmap.
Myth Busters III: I’m Building a Data Lake, So I Don’t Need Data VirtualizationDenodo
Watch full webinar here: https://bit.ly/2XXAzU3
So you’re building a data lake to solve your big data challenges. A data lake will allow you to keep all of your raw, detailed data in a single, consolidated repository; therefore, your problem is solved. Or is it? Is it really that easy?
Data lakes have their use and purpose, and we’re not here to argue that. However, data lakes on their own are constrained by factors such as duplication of data and therefore higher costs, governance limitations, and the risk of becoming another data silo.
With the addition of data virtualization, a physical data lake, can turn into a virtual or logical data like through an abstraction layer. Data virtualization can facilitate and expedite accessing and exploring critical data in a cost-effective manner and assist in deriving a greater return on the data lake investment.

2013 DataCite Summer Meeting - Update on Force 11 and the Amsterdam manifesto...datacite
This document summarizes the process undertaken by the Data Citation Synthesis Group to develop a consensus set of principles for data citation. The group was formed in response to multiple organizations developing similar sets of principles. It brought together 36 members from around 20 organizations to review 4 existing sets of data citation principles over 3 months of weekly meetings. They merged the principles into a single synthesis set of 8 high-level, simple principles for data citation. The principles address the importance of data citation, credit and attribution for data contributors, use of data citations as evidence, use of persistent and unique identifiers, access to data and metadata, ensuring identifier and metadata persistence beyond the data lifespan, accommodating versioning and granularity of data, and ensuring inter
