Lesson 1
Module 4
Academic Honors
At Manor College, academic
honors are bestowed as
recognition of outstanding
academic achievement and as a
means to further encourage sound
scholarship.
In other words, your hard work
and good grades won’t go
unnoticed. The Dean, your
program director and instructors,
and the advisors for both of the
college’s Honor Societies review
students' final grades each
semester to determine eligibility
for academic honors and awards.
Dean’s List
• Dean’s List is an honor given to students when
they have accumulated a certain number of
credits and earned a certain GPA:
– Full-time students must earn a minimum of 12
credits and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
– Part-time students will be eligible for inclusion on
the Dean’s List each semester after they have
accumulated 12 Manor credits and have a GPA of
3.5 or higher.
There are many benefits that
come with being on the Dean’s
List:
• A sense of personal
achievement and pride.
• Increasing your eligibility for
scholarships.
• A noteworthy
accomplishment to put on
your transfer applications.
• Future employers will
recognize it as a sign of your
abilities and dependability.
• An achievement that can be
noted by a mentor on a letter
of recommendation.
Manor College has three academic divisions, Allied Health Science &
Math, Business and Legal Studies, and Liberal Arts. Each Spring,
each division honors its students in a special ceremony to award
special academic honors and recognize many different forms of
student involvement, such as community service.

An honor society recognizes you for your ability
to be academically successful and provides you
with an opportunity to be part of a group of
students who have similar academic goals. Most
honor societies provide scholarships, career and
networking resources, community service,
activities on campus, and experiences that will
add recognition and value to your college
education.
Manor College has two Honor Societies to which
students can be invited. Memberships in honor
societies is based on the student’s scholastic average
and the approval of the Academic Dean.
Invitations for both societies are distributed after the
Fall semester.
One of Manor’s Honor Societies is
the Alpha Beta Gamma - Upsilon
Chapter. Alpha Beta Gamma is an
International Business Honor
Society established by business
professors in 1970 to recognize and
encourage scholarship among two-
year business and professional
college students. The society is a
member of The Association of
College Honor Societies and has
initiated 65,500 members.
Manor also inducts students into the
Phi Theta Kappa - XI Chi Chapter of the
National Honor Fraternity of the Two-
Year Colleges. Phi Theta Kappa's
mission is two-fold:
• To recognize and encourage the
academic achievement of two-year
college students and;
• To provide opportunities for
individual growth and development
through participation in honors,
leadership, service and fellowship
programming.
Here’s a photo of Tyler waiting to be
inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. He was
invited to join both Honor Societies.
