                                                          Kandian is a new social TV service from Sina. Essentially, it’s a multimedia viewing and sharing
                                                          service linked closely to Sina’s own Weibo platform. Users can upload or live-stream – in a manner
                                                          similar to the Americam site, Justin.tv – and then share and discuss the content with friends. In
                                                          addition to user-generated content, there are some proper TV channels on the site that can be
                                                          streamed for free. The site is still in private beta.

  Korea?	
  
                                                          A recent report in The Korea Times is indicating that Facebook has overtaken the nation’s dominant
                                                          social network Cyworld in terms of monthly visitors, citing metrics from Rankey.com. According to
                                                          these, Cyworld saw 15.9 million visitors in August. Facebook saw 16.3 million visitors and is
                                                          reported to have grown 16 times on the previous year to 16.3 million visitors last month. But user
                                                          base figures indicate that Facebook still has a long way to go. In comparison with Cyworld’s 25
                                                          million users, Facebook only has about 4 million to date (according to Social Bakers).

  blocked	
  in	
  China	
  
                                                          The Android Market is currently blocked in China, presumably by the Great Firewall. It may be
                                                          temporary (there have been earlier blocks), but testing it with different devices always resulted in the
                                                          same error message: connection expired. Blocks in China always come without any official public
                                                          notification. When Google Maps updated to 4.70 for Android it was blocked too. The last time I
                                                          checked Gmail on my phone, that was blocked too. Google faces a severe deficit of trust with the
                                                          Chinese government.
