Integrated Learning Activity was introduced in 2000 as part of Japan's Yutori education reforms to cross traditional subject borders through experience-based, problem-solving activities both in and out of schools that collaborate with local communities. These activities aim to provide learning experiences around understanding the ecological environment, different countries and cultures, health and welfare, and other topics.
