In today's increasingly digitalised world, software defects are enormously expensive. In 2018, the Consortium for IT Software Quality reported that software defects cost the global economy $2.84 trillion dollars and affected more than 4 billion people. The average annual cost of software defects on Australian businesses is A$29 billion per year. Thus, failure to eliminate defects in safety-critical systems could result in serious injury to people, threats to life, death, and disasters. Traditionally, software quality assurance activities like testing and code review are widely adopted to discover software defects in a software product. However, ultra-large-scale systems, such as, Google, can consist of more than two billion lines of code, so exhaustively reviewing and testing every single line of code isn't feasible with limited time and resources. This project aims to create technologies that enable software engineers to produce the highest quality software systems with the lowest operational costs. To achieve this, this project will invent an end-to-end explainable AI platform to (1) understand the nature of critical defects; (2) predict and locate defects; (3) explain and visualise the characteristics of defects; (4) suggest potential patches to automatically fix defects; (5) integrate such platform as a GitHub bot plugin.

Over the years, open source has “climbed up the stack” from operating systems to databases and now to business applications where it has established a firm foothold in the content management space.What should enterprises know about open source content management? Is it really just for Web Content Management (WCM) or does it meet the needs of broader Enterprise Content Management (ECM) deployments? Arelarge enterprises doing big, meaningful content management projects with open source or is its appeal limited to subsets of the market? What about Enterprise 2.0 initiatives? Can you assemble an Enterprise 2.0 solution from open source components? How does it compare with something like Sharepoint?
In the last several months, MLflow has introduced significant platform enhancements that simplify machine learning lifecycle management. Expanded autologging capabilities, including a new integration with scikit-learn, have streamlined the instrumentation and experimentation process in MLflow Tracking. Additionally, schema management functionality has been incorporated into MLflow Models, enabling users to seamlessly inspect and control model inference APIs for batch and real-time scoring. In this session, we will explore these new features. We will share MLflow’s development roadmap, providing an overview of near-term advancements in the platform.

Empirical Software Engineering relies on reusable datasets to make it easier to replicate empirical studies and therefore build theories on top of those empirical results. An area where these reusable datasets are particularly useful is defect predictions. In this area, the goal is to predict which entities will be more error prone, so managers can take preventive actions to improve the quality of the delivered system. These reusable datasets contain information about source code files and their history, bug reports, and bugs fixed in each one of the files. However, some of the most used datasets in the Empirical Software Engineering community have been shown to be biased: many links between files and fixed bugs are missing. Research work has already shown that this bias may affect the performance of defect prediction models. In this talk we will show how to use statistical techniques to evaluate the bias in datasets, and to estimate their impact on defect prediction

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
