This document announces a two-day Juneteenth celebration to take place on June 18-19, 2010 in Fort Worth, Texas hosted by the Renaissance Cultural Center. The free event will feature live musical performances from national R&B groups as well as local artists, art displays, food, and activities. Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States and the celebration aims to educate and stimulate community pride through cultural activities.

2010 Juneteenth Celebration
Mark your calendars for the always-popular and ever-soulful 2010
Juneteenth Celebration, presented by Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart, scheduled
Friday June 18 & Saturday June 19th. The two-day event, hosted at Fort
Worth’s Sundance Square Chisholm Trail lot, will feature a myriad of
activities including live entertainment, artistry, business and social
networking, fun and food that will inspire visitors from the DFW Metroplex and beyond.
This year’s Juneteenth celebration will feature a stellar line-up of entertainment including national R&B
touring headliners the SOS Band and the Bar-Kays and local favorites, the Buster Brown Band
(R&B/Jazz) Second Nature (R&B), WWW Gospel Group (gospel) Vin Jac (R&B) and Ultra Sound
(Neo-Soul/Jazz/Funk).
Alongside with the entertainment, a compelling display of art media will be represented, including
painting, collage, sculpture and photography. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to enjoy diverse
food selections all the while enjoying great music and shopping in the nearby Sundance Square. The
family friendly event will be free and open to the public.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United
States. From its origin in Texas in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American
Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
2010 represents the RCC’s inaugural effort to produce a Juneteenth celebration. Founded in 1991, the
RCC provides a diversified mix of cultural activities and community services to educate, stimulate
pride, and enhance economic development throughout the DFW Metroplex. Event partners include
Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, CashAmerica, Coors, The Fort Worth CVB, The City of Fort Worth and the
Fort Worth Sheraton Hotel.
