The document summarizes the findings of a McKinley Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) study on the effects of the global economic situation on associations in 2009. It shows that most associations reported declines across key business lines like annual meetings, sponsorships, and membership. In response, many associations implemented budget cuts, hiring freezes, salary freezes, and staff reductions. Preliminary results from a 2010 EIA study indicate that most associations expect similar impacts will continue into 2010 through further budget cuts, freezes, and reductions.

Study examines personal and professional use of social media among people working in continuing medical education. Presented at the 2010 Alliance for Continuing Medical Education Conference.
Symantec 2010 Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Survey found, among other things, that 53 percent of critical infrastructure providers report that their networks have experienced what they perceived as politically motivated cyber attacks. Participants claimed to have experienced such an attack on an average of 10 times in the past five years, incurring an average cost of $850,000 during a period of five years to their businesses.
A report using mostly charts and graphs that describes the spike in propane prices across the U.S., issued by the Energy Information Administration. As with all commodities, there is no one reason why prices go higher. Some blame exports, but as can be seen on the graph on slide 10, exports are still a very small percentage of overall production. The weather (and strong demand) is the primary reason for an increase in prices. Other reasons include lack of storage in the northeast, midwest demands for propane earlier this year used to dry a bumper corn crop, etc.

You know what the key challenges and priorities are within your own organisation – but how are contemporary economic and political challenges impacting your colleagues in the third sector? Exploring the key findings from our regular survey into what the sector is thinking and prioritising right now, drawing on data gathered in Autumn 2011.
In January 2009, I conducted a practice management survey of IMCA members. The results of that survey were published in a paper I wrote called, From Pain to Gain: How To Capitalize On the Opportunity of A Lifetime, which appeared in the Spring 2009 issue of the IMCA Monitor. This slide presentation summarizes the results. You can access the article at http://www.stevesaenz.com/from-pain-to-gain-how-to-capitalize-on-a-once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity.html
