FUTURARC GREEN LEADERSHIP AWARD 2011
The FuturArc Green Leadership Award (formerly known as the BCI Green Design Award)
recognises the team behind a completed project: the developer, consultants and contractors,
who have collectively pushed the limits and definition of what a Green building is in Asia and
Australia.
The competition seeks to award teams that have demonstrated the best in innovation and
environmental stewardship in architecture.
Dr Nirmal Kishnani, this year’s jury chair, elaborates, “The FuturArc Green Leadership Award is
given to completed projects that espouse principles of sustainability that are both innovative
and contextually sensitive. It offers the building industry a showcase of viewpoints—converging
roadmaps to the larger goals of ecological design—as represented by the journey taken by
each project team that turned its ideas into reality. Last year’s winners—when it was known as
the BCI Green Design Award—were a spectrum of project types and approaches from a holiday
resort in Bali to public housing in Hong Kong. This year the jury expects no less ambition,
perhaps greater diversity, as the award, now in its third year, garners a following in the
region.”

Eligibility
The project—defined as new, restored, rehabilitated or converted—must be completed
between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2010, and must be located within Asia or Australia.
Entries are invited in five categories:
1. Residential Architecture – Individual Houses
2. Residential Architecture – Multiple Houses
3. Commercial Architecture
4. Institutional Architecture
5. Interior Architecture
The competition is open from now till 30 November 2010.
Winners will be notified by the end of March 2011 to receive their trophies and prizes at the
annual BCI Asia Awards ceremonies held in May 2011 in seven cities; Hong Kong, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
All entrants are required to register and submit their entries online via the competition

About the Jury Panel
Nirmal Kishnani, PhD, is Chief Editor of the FuturArc Journal. He is an advocate, educator and
practitioner in the field of Green building design, presently with the Department of
Architecture at the National University of Singapore where he holds the appointment of Senior
Lecturer and Programme Director of the Master of Science in Integrated Sustainable Design.
He has lectured and written widely on the subject of Green design process. Since 2002 – when
he founded one of the first dedicated Green design consultancy operating in and out of Asia –
he has consulted on/for many projects and organisations in the region including the Asian
Development Bank and United Nations Environment Programme. Dr Kishnani sits on several
advisory panels in Southeast Asia, active in the development of policy instruments and
capacity building in the Green building industry. Dr. Kishnani is also Jury Chair of FuturArc Prize
2011 and a juror for the Emerson Cup.
Deo Prasad, PhD, is Professor and the Director of the Sustainable Development Program at the
University of New South Wales. He has worked on milestone projects including Australia’s first
solar village, scientific validation of computer simulation tools for energy performance
prediction of buildings and related green building assessment tools, advanced performance
simulation of buildings using complex modelling software and the Green Olympics projects. He
has won an Australian National Research Innovation Award, the NSW Government 2004 Green
Globe Award and the Australian Institute of Architects 2006 National Award for research,
design and education in sustainability.
Kevin Hydes is the CEO of Integral Group, a Global Building Engineering firm with an industryͲ
leading seven LEED Platinum completed projects focused on DEEP GREEN solutions. He served
as Chair of the USGBC from 2005Ͳ2006, Chair of WGBC from 2007Ͳ2008 and is a founder and
director of CanadaGBC. Hailing from Leeds in the UK, Kevin has focused on green design for
the past 15 years. His vision led to the first LEED Gold certified project in Canada, the first
LEEDͲEB Gold certified project in North America, and the successful completion of dozens of
projects worldwide. He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada
and the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, and an adjunct professor at McGill
University School of Architecture. He is an advisor to both the Clinton Carbon Positive
Communities program and One Planet Living. He is a member of the Singapore government
international Panel of Advisors.
