This document discusses the current state and future trends of ATMs and transaction terminals. It notes that while ATMs now offer more services beyond traditional banking, accessibility remains a challenge, especially for users with visual or physical impairments. The document proposes that mobile devices could serve as accessible "mobile ATs" given their familiarity and connectivity capabilities. It also envisions "ubiquitous ATs" that are open software, configurable, and can interact seamlessly across devices through standards like URC. Research projects are working to prototype these concepts and address barriers around interoperability, security and inclusion of accessibility in technologies.
