In 2008, the number of AIDS cases in India increased significantly due to unsafe sexual practices. 61 new AIDS cases were reported in 2008 alone. This led the government to increase awareness campaigns about HIV prevention and safe sex practices. Experts believe that focusing efforts on educating youth and changing attitudes will be key to curbing the spread of HIV in the future.
