This document summarizes a project aimed at meaningfully engaging young people in care in discussions about their mental health and experiences within the foster system. Researchers collaborated with local organizations to create an animated film called "My Name is Joe" produced by 11 young people over the course of a summer school. The film uses animation to discuss the challenges of being placed in foster care in an engaging way. It has been well-received and used to train professionals. The project demonstrated principles of active public involvement by incorporating the perspectives and skills-building of the young people.
