Absalom conspires against his father King David and declares himself king in Hebron. Absalom sends secret messengers throughout Israel announcing this. David flees from Jerusalem with his household out of fear that Absalom will overtake the city. Zadok the priest carries the ark of God back to Jerusalem at David's command while David goes to the Mount of Olives weeping. David trusts that if God is pleased with him, he will allow David to return, but if not, David accepts whatever God decides.
