Glass Ceiling

 1. 2. 2 Samuel 5:1-4

1 Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2 Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel. 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. 5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
 2. 3. I. THE EXISTENCE OF GLASS CEILINGS

MUST BE ACCEPTED

( Everyone hits the glass ceiling )
 3. 4. II. THE ESSENCE OF GLASS CEILINGS

MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED

( Glass ceilings must be identified )
 4. 5. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

When they would anoint him as king, he was hiding I Samuel 10:22 22 Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.
 5. 6. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Revelation 21:8 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
 6. 7. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

He offered an illegal sacrifice when he should have patiently waited on Samuel 7 And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. 8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. 10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. 1 Sam. 13:7-14 Impatience
 7. 8. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

1 Sam. 13:7-14 Impatience 11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; 12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. 13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
 8. 9. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Because he offered this illegal sacrifice, God judged him and removed the kingdom from him, but he continued to live as though everything were still all right 15 And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
 9. 10. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

A rash command almost cost the life of Sauls own son Jonathan 1 Sam. 14:24-46. Impatience Denial Impulsiveness
 10. 11. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Saul offered his daughter Michal to David as a wife, but first required the foreskins of 100 Philistines. Saul did this with the hope that David would die trying to get them Impatience Denial Impulsiveness Deceit 1 Sam. 18:17-27.
 11. 12. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Saul was continually jealous of the success of David Impatience Denial Impulsiveness Deceit Jealousy
 12. 13. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Impatience Denial Impulsiveness Deceit 6 And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music. 7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. 8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward. Jealousy I SAMUEL 18:6-9
 13. 14. Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

Saul repeatedly tried to kill David Impatience Denial Impulsiveness Deceit Jealousy Anger
 14. 15. Saul's Glass Ceilings Anger 1 Sam. 19:10-12 10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night. 11 Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain. 12 So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
 15. 16. David’s Glass Ceiling His Family David's family seems to always be standing in his way. When Samuel came to anoint David as king, they didn't even call David, Sam. 16:1-13 . When he voiced his desire to defeat Goliath, his brother Eliab criticized him before all the soldiers of Israel – 1 Sam. 17:28-29 . 28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
 16. 17. 17:28-29 . 28 Narinig pala ni Eliab ang kanilang pag-uusap at ito'y nagalit kay David. "Ano bang ginagawa mo rito?" pagalit niyang tanong. "Iilan-ilan na ang ating tupa'y iniwan mo pa? Alam ko kung bakit ka naparito. Hindi ka nasisiyahan na magpastol lang ng tupa, ibig mong manood ng labanan." 29 Sumagot si David, "Bakit, ano ba ang ginawa ko? Nagtatanong lang naman ako."
 17. 18. David’s Glass Ceiling His Family The one man, Saul, who should have been leading David into battle, was also a critic when David stood up to serve the Lord, 1 Sam. 17:33 . He even tried to sabotage David's efforts by giving David his own heavy armor to wear. Throughout their relationship, Saul often tried to kill David. 33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
 18. 19. David’s Glass Ceiling His Family David was a descendant of a poor, shepherding family. He did not come from power, wealth, prominence or royalty. He was a nobody among the thousands of Israel. His Leadership His Background
 19. 20. David’s Glass Ceiling His Family Over and over David was disrespected and underestimated by all those around him. ( Note : This was the same experience that Timothy had years later - 1 Tim. 4:12 .) His Leadership His Background His Youth and Inexperience 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
 20. 21. THE ENERGY OF GLASS CEILINGS

MUST BE ATTACKED

( Glass ceilings must be shattered )

 21. 22. Operate By Faith And Not By Sight 1 Sam. 17:4-11; 47 . That is the call to all God's children in all ages, GOLIATH 47 At makikita ng lahat na narito na makapagliligtas si Yahweh kahit walang tabak at sibat. Siya'y makapangyarihan at ipalulupig niya kayo sa amin." 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
 22. 23. Operate By Faith And Not By Sight Rom. 1:17 . Don't look at the size of the obstacle, look at the size of the God Who overcomes the obstacles! Ayon sa nasusulat, "Ang pinawalang-sala sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya ay mabubuhay." 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
 23. 24. Realize That God Did Not Call You Just To Let You Bang Your Head Against A Glass Ceiling David had already been anointed to be the king of Israel. If he was to succeed in that office, it would only happen by the grace of God. He succeeded because God was with him! He is with you too as you attack your " glass ceilings ", Heb. 13:5 . 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Sapagkat sinabi ng Diyos, "Hindi kita iiwan ni pababayaan man."
 24. 25. Glass Ceilings Can Be Shattered Only By The Power Of God When David faced all the obstacles of his life, he overcame every one of them by the power of God! He defeated Goliath, he saw the defeat of Saul, he overcame the problems of his family, of his background and of his youth and experience by walking, not in his own strength, but in the power of God. This is what God wants us all to do, Eph. 6:10 . 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
 25. 26. Glass Ceilings Can Be Shattered Only By The Power Of God This is how " glass ceilings " are shattered - 2 Cor. 10:3-5; 1 John 5:4 . 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
 26. 27. Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 27. 28. Isaiah 59:1-2

1 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

 28. 29. God Bless you all in Jesus name!
