2. Graphs: K&T, Ch. 3 q.7: Some friends of yours work on wireless networks, and they're currently studying the properties of a network of n mobile devices. As the devices move around (actually, as their human owners move around), they define a graph at any point in time as follows: there is a node representing each of the n devices, and there is an edge between device i and device j if the physical locations of i and j are no more than 500 meters apart. (If so, we say that i and j are "in range" of each other.) They'd like it to be the case that the network of devices is connected at all times, and so they've constrained the motion of the devices to satisfy the following property: at all times, each device i is within 500 meters of at least n/2 of the other devices. (We'll assume n is an even number.) What they'd like to know is: Does this property by itself guarantee that the network will remain connected? Here's a concrete way to formulate the question as a claim about graphs. Claim: Let G be a graph on n nodes, where n is an even number. We present GaussBits, which is a system of the passive magnetic tangible designs that enables 3D tangible interactions in the near-surface space of portable displays. When a thin magnetic sensor grid is attached to the back of the display, the 3D position and partial 3D orientation of the GaussBits can be resolved by the proposed bi-polar magnetic field tracking technique. This portable platform can therefore enrich tangible interactions by extending the design space to the near-surface space. Since non-ferrous materials, such as the user's hand, do not occlude the magnetic field, interaction designers can freely incorporate a magnetic unit into an appropriately shaped non-ferrous object to exploit the metaphors of the real-world tasks, and users can freely manipulate the GaussBits by hands or using other non-ferrous tools without causing interference. The presented example applications and the collected feedback from an explorative workshop revealed that this new approach is widely applicable.

Leveraging Conductive Inkjet Technology to Build a Scalable and Versatile Sur...
In this paper we describe the design and implementation of a new versatile, scalable and cost-effective sensate surface. The system is based on a new conductive inkjet technology, which allows capacitive sensor electrodes and different types of RF antennas to be cheaply printed onto a roll of flexible substrate that may be many meters long. By deploying this surface on (or under) a floor it is possible to detect the presence and whereabouts of users through both passive and active capacitive coupling schemes. We have also incorporated GSM and NFC electromagnetic radiation sensing and piezoelectric pressure and vibration detection. We report on a number of experiments which evaluate sensing performance based on a 2.5m x 0.3m hardware test-bed. We describe some potential applications for this technology and highlight a number of improvements we have in mind.
Energy Efficient Modeling of Wireless Sensor Networks using Random Graph Theory
This paper deals with the discussion of an innovative and a design for the
efficient power management and power failure diagnosis in the area of wireless sensors
networks. A Wireless Network consists of a web of networks where hundreds of pairs are
connected to each other wirelessly. A critical issue in the wireless sensor networks in the
present scenario is the limited availability of energy within network nodes. Therefore,
making good use of energy is necessary in modeling a sensor network. In this paper we have
tried to propose a new model of wireless sensors networks on a three-dimensional plane
using the percolation model, a kind of random graph in which edges are formed between the
neighbouring nodes. An algorithm has been described in which the power failure diagnosis
is made and solved. The concepts of Electromagnetics, Wave Duality, Energy model of an
atom is linked with wireless networks. A model is prepared in which the positioning of
nodes of sensors are decided. Also the model is made more efficient regarding the energy
consumption, power delivery etc. using the concepts of graph theory concepts, probability
distribution.

The localization of wireless sensor networks is an important problem where the location of wireless sensors is determined using the distance between sensors. Trilateration is a geometric technique used to find location of points in 2D using distances. Using geometry, one can find
the location of a point uniquely in 2D given its distance to three other points in 2D. The problem of finding the trilateration order of vertices even if the network of sensors is a uniquely localizabe is NP-Complete. The 2D localization problem is closely related to the problem of graph rigidity. A graph can be uniquely realized in 2D if and only if the underlying network graph is globally rigid. Therefore by examining the structure of the underlying graph for
rigidity and localization guided by rigidity is another technique used in localization. We study the performance of trilateration which is based on geometry and local information to
see if it is effected by graph rigidity which is a global property. In particular, we compare the performance of the trilateration on connected non-rigid networks and connected rigid networks. We focus on sparse networks graphs of lower radius.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education

This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
