This document summarizes a study that developed an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) training program for primary school teachers in Thailand. The program combined reflective teaching, brain-based learning, and school-based training theories. Ten teachers participated and completed competency assessments, EFL skill enhancement training, developed EFL lesson plans and activities, and participated in program evaluations. The program helped improve the teachers' EFL skills and teaching abilities. Student feedback indicated better EFL learning environments compared to before. School directors supported teachers continuing the program's methods.
In July 2011 Professor Beverley Skeggs became the joint managing editor of the journal The Sociological Review, a major journal which has just celebrated 100 years of shaping the field. The podcast is taken from the Annual Lecture of the Sociological Review in 2015 where Dr Imogen Tyler gave the Keynote address.
2014 CoCo Seminar - Supporting Pre-Service and Early Career Teachers in Austr...nickkelly
This talk presents a number of perspectives upon a growing learning network of pre-service and early career teachers. The learning network has arisen through a collaboration between a number of Australian universities, with the aim of facilitating support in the transition between pre-service education and the first years of service. The talk is structured to refer to this example in posing questions more general to design for learning networks:
- What is the motivation for developing the learning network? Original research into the need to augment teacher support in Australia.
- How do design of the set, activities and relationships align with participant motivations? Participant ownership and designing for culture (desired within the network) as well as cultural history (of the participants in other networks).
- How does theory influence the design process? Theory-based criticism of the design and allowing this to inform further design.

This document discusses issues related to the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. It provides background information on Vieques, describing its location, population, and economy. It then summarizes the work of the Vieques Youth Leadership Initiative (VYLI) which aims to train young leaders in Vieques. VYLI has four initiatives focused on cultural arts, entrepreneurship, ecotourism, and technology. The document recommends ways to address Vieques' social and economic challenges through promoting sustainable development, green jobs, renewable energy, and reducing consumerism.

- The document discusses how the speaker's roots with the sea shaped their life path, leading them to study ocean acidification (OA) and its impacts.
- Their Watson Fellowship involved traveling to sites around the world to understand how OA may affect human communities dependent on ocean resources. They found OA could threaten industries like scallop fishing in Peru.
- The speaker learned that all communities have relationships with their environments and that problems often emerge from unhealthy relationships that enable unsustainable practices.
- Going forward, they see opportunities in fields that can help build healthier human-environment relationships and address issues like OA.

The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) was established in 1974 to support ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) research. It has since become a 322-acre ocean science and technology park that is home to 30 enterprises in industries like aquaculture, solar energy, and biotechnology, generating $30-40 million annually for the local economy and over 200 jobs. NELHA provides cold deep seawater from 2,000 feet below the surface and warm surface seawater to its tenants. The West Hawaii Explorations Academy high school located at NELHA offers hands-on, project-based education in sustainable practices like aquaponics, solar energy, and surveying local ecosystems.
