Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English VI
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
 Identify Gerund.
 Distinguish verbs with -ing (Gerund) to other words that are not verbs but have -ing at the
end (Not Gerund).
 Determine the proper form of gerund from the verb.
II. Subject Matter
Topic : “Gerund”
Reference : Basco, Haidee C. English for You and Me, PHC Publishing House Inc,
Bulacan, 2008, pp. 178-180
Materials: chart, box, Powerpoint Presentation
III. Procedures
A. Routine Activities
1. Prayer
The teacher will ask the student to lead the prayer.
2. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will ask the secretary for the attendance.
3. Motivation
 Show a video presentation of a song to the students and let them sing it.
 Ask the students about what they have noticed about the lyrics of a song.
 Tell the students that those words are some of the examples of Gerund.
B. Presentation
 Introduce Gerund to the students.
 Show some examples of Gerund to the students.
 Short Activity: To let students distinguish verbs with -ing which is a
Gerund, to other words that are not verbs but have -ing at the end (Not
Gerund) let them sing the song the you have presented earlier while passing
the box and when the music stops, the one holding the box will pick and read
the word inside it. Words can be a gerund or not gerund.
C. Generalization
Ask students the following questions:
1. How can you say if a word ending with –ing is a gerund?
2. Give some examples of Gerund.
3. Give some examples of the words that have –ing at the end but are not gerund.
D. Application
Group Activity:
Group the students into 3, let the students decide which one is the gerund from the
underlined words. Fastest group to pass their work with correct answers will win.
1. Aling Teresa is interested in studying Mathematics subject.
2. Speaking in different languages is a difficult thing to do.
3. The king is hoping for a powerful kingdom.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Form a gerund from the verbs inside the parenthesis.
1. You should practice (speak) in English more often.
2. (Study) hard is important.
3. (Exercise) your body can help you get better.
4. The teacher missed (work) with children.
5. (Ride) a race car is very delicate for a beginner like me.
V. Assignment
Answer the following.
 Give the different kinds of Gerund.
 Give at least 2 examples each.
