The 1906 San Francisco earthquake lasted about a minute but caused fires that killed more than the earthquake itself and destroyed over 250,000 homes, resulting in over 3,000 deaths. Though the earthquake severely damaged San Francisco, the city was quickly rebuilt and bigger within 9 years, hosting the International Exposition.
