You’re supposed to be !
the “expert.” It helps !
a lot if you actually know
WHAT HECK YOU’RE
TALKING ABOUT!

SLEEPINESS !
impairs your memory, !
your ability to think, and !
the speed your brain
processes information.!
2
GET PLENTY
OF SLEEP
18. 18
Give your brain something !
to do BESIDES PANIC.!
For example, mentally note
the people in the audience
wearing a particular color.!

FOCUS
OUTWARD
19. 19
Your CHEERLEADERS !
are the people in your!
audience who are visibly
attentive, making eye contact,
nodding their heads, etc.!

Physical fitness is not
only one of the most
important keys to a

RELAX AND
SMILE
Smiles are wildly contagious.
RELAXING & SMILING at an
audience activates mirror
neurons and helps bring a
smile to their faces, too! !

MOVE BUT
DON’T PACE
Moving around the stage!
is a good thing. But pacing !
(or rocking back-and-forth)
creates a visual rhythm that
INDUCES SLEEPINESS.!
27. 27

HYDRATE
15-MIN PRIOR
Nervousness can give you a
dry mouth so be sure to drink
plenty of WATER approx. !
15-min prior to taking the
stage to give it time to absorb
(without making feel like you
have to pee!).!

FAKE IT TILL YOU
BECOME IT
You are NOT an imposter!
Don't fake it till you make it.
Fake it till you become it. !
Do it enough until you
actually BECOME IT !
and INTERNALIZE IT.

DO THE
2-MINUTE DRILL
Before you go into the !
next stressful situation, !
FOR TWO MINUTES, !
do Power Poses, in the
elevator, in a bathroom stall,
at your desk, behind closed
doors, etc. Doing so will!
CONFIGURE YOUR BRAIN
TO COPE THE BEST!
in that situation.!

TAKE
BABY STEPS
(ON THE BUS)
Practice in front of a mirror.
Then your spouse or family,
a small group of friends, !
a small audience, etc. !
WORK YOUR WAY UP to
larger audiences over time.!

bus, baby steps down
the aisle, baby steps...
