2. BROODING
•art and science of rearing chicks
•after hatch when special care and
attention must be given to chicks to
ensure their health and survival.
20XX presentation title 2
4. 1.) NATURAL BROODING
Done with help of broody hens after hatching (
3-4 weeks of age )
20XX presentation title 4
5. 2.) ARTIFICIAL BROODING
• Large number of chicks are reared in the
absence of broody hen.
• Equipment used for brooding are called
BROODERS
20XX presentation title 5
7. 1.) HEATING SOURCE
• electrical gases like natural gas, methane,
liquid fuel like kerosene, solid fuel like coal,
wood can be use as a heating materials
20XX presentation title 7
9. A.) CHARCOAL POT
• When electricity is not available, ordinary charcoal
pot are used to provide supplementary heat to
chicks. These pot are covered with plate / pans to
dissipate the heat.
20XX presentation title 9
11. B.) GAS BROODER/LPG (LIQUIFIED
PETROLEUM GAS) KEROSENE LAMP
• Natural gas, LPG or methane is connected to
heating element which is hanged 3 to 5 feet
above the chicks to provide heat.
20XX presentation title 11
13. C.) ELECTRICITY/ELECTRICAL BULB
• One electrical brooder can be used for 300 to 400
chicks at the rate of 1 watt/bird.
• Infra red bulbs: One 250 watts IR bulb can provide
brooding for about 150 to 250 chicks.
20XX presentation title 13
16. 2.)REFLECTORS
• These reflectors are called Hovers.
• Flat type hover – These hovers are provided with heating
element, heating mechanism and pilot lamp
• Canopy type hover – These reflectors are in concave shape
consisting of ordinary electrical bulb and thermostat
mechanism.
20XX presentation title 16
18. 3.)BROODER GUARD
• prevent chicks from straying too far from heat
supply until they learn the source of heat
• Height of brooder: not exceed 1.5 feet
20XX presentation title 18
21. FEED MANAGEMENT
• post hatch chick goes from source of nutrients to
an external solid feed diet
• helps with gut development
• placed in an area that they are able to reach
20XX presentation title 21
23. 1.) LONG PLASTIC FEEDER
• more than four or five chicks
• chicks can sit side by side to eat
• chicks cannot climb inside the container
20XX presentation title 23
27. 3.) MASON JAR CHICK FEEDERS
• Round shape
• holes are quite large
• the design allows grain to disperse into the
feeder as the chicks eat
20XX presentation title 27
31. WATER MANAGEMENT
• extremely important aspect of chick husbandry
• water should be clean and free of bacteria
• water can also have an impact on gut health.
20XX presentation title 31
37. 3.)BELL TYPE AUTOMATIC WATERER
• made of high impact in a bell shape usually
suspended from separate pipeline for the
purpose
• this type of waterers has control over the
water flow and maintains the required water
level always
20XX presentation title 37
39. 4.) NIPPLE DRINKER
• can be used both in deep-litter and in cage
system
• can be used for all types and classes of birds,
but most commonly used in laying cages
