Presentation of Åsa Weinholt and Tobias Andersson Granberg on the topic "Evaluation of enhanced collaboration between fire and rescue services and security officers" at ISCRAM2013
The document discusses the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system in India. It provides background on the origins of EMS starting in the US in 1928. It outlines key details of the EMS system in India such as the national emergency number 108. The document also reviews legal protections for EMS responders under Indian law and standard procedures for responding to and securing incident scenes. These procedures include assessing the scene, reporting critical information, establishing danger zones, and proper vehicle staging to protect responders.

Only 1% of the 5 million disabled youth aged 15-35 in India are employed, due to a lack of skills and job opportunities as well as infrastructural and social barriers. The GROW program aims to address this by providing skills training and job placement assistance. It focuses on competency assessments, industry-vetted modular training courses, strong employer partnerships, and technology platforms to match candidates' skills and aspirations to jobs. The goal is to equip disabled youth with the skills demanded by employers to improve employment outcomes.

SEKENDIZ-An evaluation of emergency plans and procedures in fitness facilitie...Global Risk Forum GRFDavos
This document discusses the results of a study that evaluated emergency plans and procedures in fitness facilities in Australia. The study found that fitness facilities are not well prepared for emergency response situations despite regulations requiring emergency plans. An online survey of over 1000 fitness professionals and observational audits of 11 facilities found low compliance with emergency plans and procedures. The researchers conclude there is a need for improved education and policies to help fitness facilities properly develop and implement emergency plans as part of risk management efforts.
ISCRAM 2013: Impact of the distribution and enrichment of information on the ...ISCRAM Events
1) This document describes a study on the impact of information distribution and enrichment on crisis management coordination.
2) An experiment was conducted with 100 crisis management professionals across 4 groups responding to simulated crises under different information conditions.
3) The results showed that enriching information for coordinators had a strong impact on their situation awareness and decision making, but also increased risks of coordination neglect and role neglect, especially with more centralized information management.
This document summarizes a study on the impact of information distribution and enrichment on crisis management coordination. The study involved professionals from emergency agencies managing simulated crises in centralized and decentralized information conditions. The results showed that enriching information for commanding officers significantly improved situation awareness and decision making. However, it also increased the risk of coordination neglect and role neglect, especially in centralized conditions. The document recommends implementing formal information management practices in crisis response and further research on measurement methodologies.
This document summarizes the key findings from studies on the economic costs of responses to influenza pandemics. It discusses components considered in cost-effectiveness evaluations such as epidemic data, cost data, and the costs and benefits of different interventions. It also reviews reference values used to determine cost-effectiveness and outlines challenges in comparing studies due to inconsistent approaches. The document stresses the importance of including value-for-money considerations and using standardized methodologies and inputs to allow better comparison of results across studies.
Presented at the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham, UK on the 21st September 2016. This presentation focuses on findings from the evaluation of the Winter Pressures pilot and highlights the work the fire service is doing as a health asset.

5th International Disaster and Risk Conference IDRC 2014 Integrative Risk Management - The role of science, technology & practice 24-28 August 2014 in Davos, Switzerland
The document summarizes the THESEIS project, which aims to develop an e-learning training model on occupational health and safety for workers in the environmental sector. It is a 24 month project funded by the European Commission and involves 12 partners from 8 EU countries. The project has identified a need for more training on health and safety legislation and technologies for workers in fields like wastewater treatment and waste management. It has developed an online training platform in multiple languages and will pilot and promote the training model.
This document discusses strategies for improving child safety that have demonstrated effectiveness across multiple areas. It notes that strategies like rear-facing car seats, bicycle helmets, and pool fencing have shown significant reductions in injuries. The document advocates for a multi-sectoral approach to child safety that brings together groups like health, transportation, and education. It presents examples of cross-cutting strategies like bicycle helmet promotion that can improve health, safety, and the environment simultaneously. The key messages are that child injuries are a major problem, proven solutions exist but require coordinated, multi-sectoral implementation, and injury prevention is a prime example of an issue that benefits from a "Health in All Policies" approach.

The Management of Occupational Health and Safety in Vocational EducationSari Tappura
This document summarizes a study on occupational health and safety (OHS) management practices in vocational education and training (VET) provider organizations in Finland. The study interviewed 58 managers, teachers, and support staff from 6 large VET providers to describe their typical OHS practices. These practices were categorized as preventative actions before incidents, responses during incidents, and ways to cope after incidents. Examples are given for each category, such as safety training, evacuation exercises, and injury reporting. The study emphasizes that effective OHS management can help VET providers meet their responsibilities to students and employees, and that current practices have a preventative focus on increasing safety.
A Concept For Support Of Firefighter Frontline CommunicationAngel Evans
This document discusses communication challenges faced by firefighters during indoor missions and proposes a concept for a new communication assistance system. It finds that current radio systems often fail, disrupting coordination. Firefighters also find radios distracting and stressful to use. The concept proposes a system with 3 key features: 1) a robust ad-hoc network to ensure connectivity, 2) telemetry and text messaging for implicit feedback instead of radio calls, and 3) implicit interaction to reduce communication demands on firefighters. The goal is a system that improves situational awareness for commanders while reducing communication burdens during missions.
The document discusses emergency preparedness in the supply chain of the chemical industry. It describes BASF Fire Department's program to provide three levels of off-site emergency response assistance to chemical transport accidents. This program operates in multiple countries and regions under different names, with the goal of expanding to Africa. The document also notes that such programs support disaster risk reduction frameworks by developing safety policies, conducting research on transportation risks, and strengthening emergency response training and capabilities in developing nations.

Enhancing transparency lessons learned from capacity development, Rebecca CarmanOECD Environment
This document summarizes lessons learned from a capacity development program to support climate change mitigation and transparency efforts in 38 countries. Key lessons include: (1) assigning climate relevance to financial flows and obtaining private sector data is challenging; (2) data availability and quality for transparency remains a fundamental issue; and (3) country-driven approaches that build on existing systems through engagement over time are most effective. The program delivered various outputs to support NDCs and transparency, but further targeted technical support is now needed for implementation.

Using new actors as first responders has been suggested as a solution to
decrease response time and increase the number of resources
available in small scale crisis in the Swedish Emergency Response
System.
4. Background

- In the seven cases the fire chief estimated that the security officers
proportion of the total effort was 100 %.
- In five of these cases they suppressed fires with no risk for diffusion
or large social costs.
- Two of the cases implied substantial risk for spreading and damage.

• The benefits from time savings amount to 8 times the invested
