Soccer originated in 1863 in England when two football associations split. The first Football Association was founded, establishing the rules of the game including two teams of 11 players each trying to get the ball into the opposing goal. The field is rectangular between 65-110 yards wide and 100-120 yards long, divided in half with a center line and goals at each end.
