It tracks progress toward these goals through annual country surveys, improving data collection on government spending, tracking private sector investments, and assessing indicators of innovation progress. The event aims to disseminate information on progress from initial phases of parts of the wider £180 million BEIS investment through the NIP and promote opportunities for the next phase of the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials (AMM) Programme.
Phase 2A participants for the AMM programmes – as part of the wider NIP will disseminate findings from their work through presentations. This is to ensure that information is shared with the wider industry in order to promote fairness and transparency for potential suppliers and collaborators that wish to bid into the next phase of work.
The event will also promote grant call for the AMM Phase 2B (Advanced Manufacturing and Construction) programme – followed by Q&A sessions. The wider AMM Phase 2 programme forms part of the Government commitment under the Nuclear Sector Deal. Through this Phase 2B call, Government will provide up to £10 million to demonstrate advanced manufacturing and construction techniques through development and use of a demonstrator. These phases of work are for a duration of one year.

Off-grid electrification for development of small islands represents a number of unique challenges under the broad category of rural electrification. Small, off-grid island communities are particularly vulnerable to diesel price fluctuations and natural disasters, and thus, enhancing resilience through more sustainable and cheaper energy technologies should be a key priority. Financing the transition to these technologies – usually photovoltaic, micro-hydro or sometimes wind – is an essential hurdle to overcome. Once electricity systems are in place it is equally important that they are sustained in the longer term with effective arrangements for operation and maintenance, cost recovery etc. Related to this, is the productive use of the energy provided to increase islander incomes.
The workshop on Bunaken Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia from 3 to 5 November 2015, organised by the Smart Villages Initiative in collaboration with Kopernik, will explore these issues and develop recommendations for policy makers, development agencies and other stakeholders in energy provision to island communities.

Carbon Capture and Storage Program

Key issues and barriers in developing countries
This third webinar in the series 'CCS in Developing Countries' was presented by the World Bank.
Deploying CCS in developing countries is critically important. The International Energy Agency estimates that to achieve global emissions reduction targets 70% of CCS projects will be in non-OECD countries by 2050.
CCS faces a number of challenges, in all countries, but particularly in developing countries. This webinar discussed some of these challenges and barriers using South Africa as a case study. South Africa is working towards a Test Injection Project and subsequently a Carbon Capture and Sequestration Project. The World Bank considered it important to understand a set of constraints, including regulatory, technical, economic, human capacity, etc. to realization of CCS demonstration and commercialization, and how the CCS development will look like in the South African context, out to 2050. A techno-economic assessment has been undertaken to gain this understanding.
The techno-economic assessment explored CCS deployment in six relevant industries in South Africa, and assessed projected scenarios associated with key issues of interest (such as cost, impact on electricity prices, timeframes etc). The key output from the techno-economic study was a techno-economic model, supported by the data sets, specifically for South Africa. The potential storage site capacity has been analysed to provide a strong indication of the likely storage capacity available within physical and economic constraints.
Delivering low energy and healthy homes
The deep retrofit programme in SEAI aims to deliver low energy and healthy homes in Ireland. The team present on the pilot programme to date. Presented at the AIVC and SEAI symposium at the Energy Show.
EUROPEAN CCS INFRASTRUCTURE IN REGARD TO LOW-CARBON INDUSTRIAL HUBS
