1. Drawing
Model

Student
Essay Part
Plate Tectonics is the theory that the Earth is made of pieces of oceanic and continental crust that float on liquid rock called mantle. The lithospheric plate called the Pacific Plate has been moving to the northwest for millions of years, and the oldest islands are those to the northwest of the island of Hawaii. There is an island forming southeast of Hawaii that is still underwater. It should surface eventually because it is now an active volcano over a hot spot on the lithospheric plate. These hot spots are something like a leak in the lithospheric plate that never stops. Volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur around the Pacific Ocean in an area that has been called the Ring of Fire. You might have noticed the correlation with the trenches and the Pacific Ocean. Almost all of the trenches are found in this ocean; this is the reason that the Pacific Ocean is getting smaller and the Atlantic Ocean is getting larger. Harry H. Hess hypothesized that new crust forms at mid-ocean ridges and causes the seas to expand. He also suggested that the ocean floor was destroyed in areas called trenches. Trenches are the deepest areas that are found in the oceans; the Marianas Trench, off Guam, is the deepest one on Earth.
When I showed my mom the model of the earth and the colorful picture, she learned thata. the Atlantic is expanding because of the plates' movement underneath each otherb. the Pacific is becoming smaller for the same reason.c. the movement of the plates has also caused volcanoes, which are creating islandsI also showed her the layers of the earth, including the core and the mantle. The box model was a little hard to understand, but she got it that the plates are moving under and against each other. The colored drawing was very clear, and the explanation was likewise clear. Overall, I think I did a good job
