This report is a joint effort of the Government of Uzbekistan and the United Nations (UN) agencies in Uzbekistan, and it aims to provide an analysis and assessment of the country’s progress towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals during 2000-2013. It also identifies key factors that have contributed to the achievement of the goals as well as highlighting the challenges the country will have to address in the years to come. The MDG report is the result of a highly participatory and consultative process: 8 working groups were formed with national experts from more than 15 Ministries and institutions and representatives of eight UN agencies; 4 rounds of working group meetings and round tables were organized to discuss the structure and core content of the document; several international experts were involved in its preparation. The Center of Economic Research (CER), a coordinating body on preparation of the MDG Report, has made a presentation of MDG Report to highlight the progress towards attainment of MDGs in Uzbekistan. In turn, the UN Office in Uzbekistan has delivered information on key principles and priorities of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) at the global level.

This is the study guide for Module 1 of The School for Health and Care Radicals, a five week virtual programme, designed to equip people across the health and care system with the core skills to improve their skills as change agents. It supports NHS Change Day 2014, the grassroots movement in which everyone who values the NHS can make a pledge of action to improve things for patients and the health and care system. Big change only happens in health and care because of heretics and radicals: passionate people who are willing to take responsibility and work with others to make change happen. Being a radical isn't related to hierarchy or position and you don't have to work in the NHS or social care to qualify as one. Registrants to the school so far include patients and carers, students, senior leaders, improvement facilitators and clinical and care staff. This Is Not the Question for Public Health Emergencies November 17, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST Speaker: Ghaiath Hussein, Assistant Professor, Medical Ethics and Law, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland About this Seminar: Public health emergencies, whether natural or man-made, local or global, in peacetime or during armed conflicts are always associated with the need to collect data (and sometimes biological samples) about and from those affected by these emergencies. One of the central questions in the relevant literature is whether the activities that involve the collection of data and/or biological samples are considered ‘research’, with the subsequent endeavour to define what ‘research’ is and whether they should be submitted for ethical approval or not. In this seminar, I will argue that this is not the central question when it comes to research/public health/humanitarian ethics. Using the findings of a systematic review on the research conducted in Darfur and findings from a qualitative project that aimed at defining what constitutes ‘research’ in public health emergencies I will, alternatively, present what I refer to as the ‘ethical characterization’ of these research-like activities and how they can be ethically guided.
