The document summarizes a case study of Credium, a financial services company, implementing a cloud backup and disaster recovery solution with GTS. The solution involved continual backup of Credium's critical systems and data to a remote virtual environment hosted by GTS. This minimized Credium's risk from catastrophic failures by allowing operations to quickly failover to the backup systems. The flexible virtual platform also provided scalable capacity without requiring Credium to invest in unused backup hardware. Overall, the solution helped Credium achieve reliable disaster recovery protection with minimal costs.
1) Software parallelization is required to handle the increasing scale and complexity of high-energy physics (HEP) experiments, which produce vast amounts of data from particle collisions.
2) The authors developed a programming model called Communication Capability (CoCa) that allows parallelization at different levels of granularity and reduces software complexity.
3) CoCa is based on the database transaction paradigm and allows the results of components executing in parallel to be combined while ensuring consistency, as required for HEP event reconstruction.
This document summarizes a proposed security model for transaction management in distributed mobile database environments. The model uses encryption/decryption between base stations and mobile hosts to securely transmit data. It also uses a damage assessment algorithm to detect the spread of malicious transactions across replicated distributed databases and aid in recovery. The architecture includes fixed proxy servers that update an encrypted mobile request and return an encrypted result. The damage assessment algorithm evaluates logs to assess attack impacts and supports both "coldstart" and "warmstart" recovery methods.
A Robust Image Watermarking using Svd and Differential Evolution in DWT DomainIRJET Journal
The document presents a proposed method for robust image watermarking using singular value decomposition (SVD) and differential evolution algorithm in the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) domain. The original image is partitioned into wavelets using DWT. SVD is then applied to construct a low-resolution approximation image. A watermark is embedded by modifying the scaling factors of the singular values with the watermark values. Differential evolution is used to identify optimal multiple scaling factors to maximize robustness without compromising image quality. Experimental results show the proposed method maintains image quality while the watermark can still be identified after various attacks.
Challenge: Recent success of Docker containers reveals arrival of a new era: the number of CPUs is exploding 10-100 folds up, and cloud networking is already in a new movement of scalability upgrade
Question: To scale UP or OUT? I.e., UPgrade or OUTgrade?
Answer from DaoliCloud’s practice: Better scale OUT, ,,.and Openflow can help
This document discusses two approaches for distributed clustering of data streams from sensor networks: DGClust and L2GClust. DGClust performs local discretization and representative clustering to improve computation and communication loads for clustering sensor data streams at a central server. L2GClust performs local clustering based on each sensor's sketch of its own data and its neighbors' estimates of the global clustering, allowing each sensor to estimate the overall network clustering with limited resources and communication. Evaluation shows L2GClust achieves high agreement with centralized clustering while reducing storage, communication and sensitivity to uncertainty.

This dissertation evaluates whether government policy in the UK encourages sustainable brownfield redevelopment. It assesses legislation, financial incentives and surveys developers in southwest England. The literature review found that policy aims to promote brownfield use through laws and funding, however incentives are underused and sustainability is lacking emphasis. Survey results suggest developers regularly redevelop brownfields in Cornwall without major barriers. Respondents indicated national policy around housing is impacting land values locally. While sample size was limited, results demonstrate policy encourages brownfield reuse but could better promote sustainability through clear criteria for funding allocation.

The document summarizes a demonstration by QLogic and Dell showcasing the extreme performance of QLogic's NetXtreme II Ethernet adapters. In the demonstration, two Dell servers connected through Dell switches using QLogic 10GbE adapters achieved transfer rates of 10Gbps with less than 1% CPU utilization. This level of network efficiency from QLogic adapters is critical for today's data centers approaching maximum server utilization. Choosing the wrong adapter could require purchasing additional server hardware, while QLogic's solutions streamline tasks and allow existing hardware to be used more efficiently.
Calico provides secure network connectivity for containers and virtual machine workloads.
Calico creates and manages a flat layer 3 network, assigning each workload a fully routable IP address. Workloads can communicate without IP encapsulation or network address translation for bare metal performance, easier troubleshooting, and better interoperability. In environments that require an overlay, Calico uses IP-in-IP tunneling or can work with other overlay networking such as flannel.
