This document provides an agenda and assignments for an 8th grade language arts class focusing on the novel The Giver. The agenda includes independent reading, work time on a literature presentation, and an introduction to The Giver. Assignments given are to read chapters 1-2 of The Giver, complete a vocabulary writing, and comments on two students' responses. True/false questions are also included about characteristics of an ideal community. Finally, pre-reading questions are provided to respond to in preparation for reading the novel.
