First question
Over the past four years, I would expect to see an increase in
the emission of CO2.
This is because looking at the world phenomenon, there has
been a gradual rise in activities increasing carbon content in our
atmosphere. The past forty years have been marked by a high
rate of industrial growth. This industrial growth has brought
about an increase in the number of activities which lead to the
production of carbon dioxide. In most cases, industries don’t
follow the environmental law to the letter and thus they
discharge large volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse
gasses into the atmosphere (Archer, 2012). Other activities
leading to production of carbon dioxide has also been on the
rise. For instance, burning of fossil fuels has grown to a very
high level. This has come with the increase of machineries
using this form of fuel over the period. These include cars,
aeroplanes and other automobiles.
On the same note, this period has seen a decline in the forest
cover ratio. Trees and other green vegetation are responsible for
removing excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. On a
situation where the vegetative cover is reduced, lower volumes
of carbon are removed from the atmosphere leading to a general
increase in carbon dioxide volumes in the atmosphere and hence
global warming.

Purpose
The purpose of this lab to investigate the trends and various
causes an increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, with
respect to carbon dioxide.
Introduction
The earth is naturally designed to regulate its temperature to an
optimal level of sustaining life. However, this balance has been
disrupted leading to global warming. Gases such as carbon
dioxide normally aid in preventing the earth’s temperature from
going too low. However this only happens when the volumes are
the optimal level (Archer, 2012). Currently the volumes of
carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have been on the rise
and this has led to the earth’s temperatures rising high than the
desirable levels.
Hypothesis
Human activities have had a great impact in increasing the
volume of carbon in the atmosphere.
Methodology
In this lab, information was gained through a close study of data
on green house gases emitted in various areas over a period of
time. This data is readily available on the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric web site. This data was closely analysed and
various trends were observed.
Results
Through the lab it was found out that the volume content of
carbon dioxide has been on the rise the number of years under
the study. This general increase was pinned out in all the areas
7. whose data was under scrutiny.
Discussion
From the lab results, the general increase in the volume of green
house gases in the atmosphere can only be attributed to the
increased human activity. Over the past few years,
industrialization has been on the rise. This has been coupled up
by weak environmental laws which see the greenhouse gases
ending up in the atmosphere. In addition to these, there have
been an increase in the use of fossil fuels and hence more
carbon dioxide being added to the atmosphere (Archer, 2012).
This has also been couple up with deforestation and hence
lowering the mean via which carbon dioxide is removed from
the atmosphere. This ultimately leads to global warming.
