Guglielmo Marconi gagal dalam pe-nerimaan 
mahasiswa di Universitas 
Bologna, Italia, tetapi ayahnya dapat 
mengatur untuk memasukkannya ke 
dalam kuliah-kuliah dan laboratorium. 
Setelah belajar mengenai percobaan-percobaan 
dengan radio, ia membuat 
ruang kerja di loteng rumahnya. Marconi 
sebenarnya tidak menemukan hal 
baru, karena gelombang radio telah 
ditemukan sebelumnya. Bahkan, 
desain alat pengirim dan penerima 
meniru penemuan ilmuwan lainnya. 
Anak muda ini berpikir tentang ke-gunaan 
baru dari gelombang radio. Ia me-nyadari 
bahwa ia dapat menggunakan 
gelombang radio untuk mengirim 
pesan-pesan tanpa melalui kawat. Tak 
seorang pun sebelumnya memikirkan 
hal tersebut.
