(2) Describe an example of each leadership style using people from history or your own

1)
the main 3 types of Leadership styles are as follows:
a) Authoritarian b) Democratic and c) Laissez-Faire Leadership
Authoritarian Leadership:
Authoritarian leadership also known as autocratic leadership. These leaders believe in making
policies and rules as per their belief and perception and expects others to follow. They seldom
believe in division of labor and are stern believers of rules, regualtions, demands, orders, threats
and punishments. This type of leadership is only useful at the time of leading a team that is being
set up or having ever changing workforce; having less time to take decision or make rule etc. It
often doesnot work in a participative environment having an old and well setteled team. This
often leads to dissatisfaction, turn-over and absentism.
Degree of Authority: High
Democratic Leadership:
Democratic leadership believes in collective decision making and camarederie. These leaders
takes their sub-ordinates views into account to make decision and often praise them for their
good work. Democratic leaders gain authority by means of accountability, co-operation,
cooperation, delegation of tasks and responsibilities within the group, empowering employees
etc. One of the main drawback of this kind of leadership is lack of "unity of direction", which
gives rise to several leaders within the group and hence it makes delay in decision making
process.
Degree of Authority: Moderate
Laissez-Faire Leadership:
Laissez-Faire Leadership is described as uninvolved kind of leadership and often a leadership is
absent altogether. Leaders following this type of leadership doesnot make any policies or group
related decisions, instead group members are themselves responsible for goals, decisions and
problem solving. This kind of leadership is often seen in organizations having long term
employees as well as in research settings. This is not applicable in environments where team
members are new, require regular feedback, direction and oversight.

  • 1. (1) Please describe, in your own words, each of the three main styles of leadership paying close attention to how each relates to use of authority. (10 points) (2) Describe an example of each leadership style using people from history or your own personal experience. Solution 1) the main 3 types of Leadership styles are as follows: a) Authoritarian b) Democratic and c) Laissez-Faire Leadership Authoritarian Leadership: Authoritarian leadership also known as autocratic leadership. These leaders believe in making policies and rules as per their belief and perception and expects others to follow. They seldom believe in division of labor and are stern believers of rules, regualtions, demands, orders, threats and punishments. This type of leadership is only useful at the time of leading a team that is being set up or having ever changing workforce; having less time to take decision or make rule etc. It often doesnot work in a participative environment having an old and well setteled team. This often leads to dissatisfaction, turn-over and absentism. Degree of Authority: High Democratic Leadership: Democratic leadership believes in collective decision making and camarederie. These leaders takes their sub-ordinates views into account to make decision and often praise them for their good work. Democratic leaders gain authority by means of accountability, co-operation, cooperation, delegation of tasks and responsibilities within the group, empowering employees etc. One of the main drawback of this kind of leadership is lack of "unity of direction", which gives rise to several leaders within the group and hence it makes delay in decision making process. Degree of Authority: Moderate Laissez-Faire Leadership: Laissez-Faire Leadership is described as uninvolved kind of leadership and often a leadership is absent altogether. Leaders following this type of leadership doesnot make any policies or group related decisions, instead group members are themselves responsible for goals, decisions and problem solving. This kind of leadership is often seen in organizations having long term employees as well as in research settings. This is not applicable in environments where team
