1 3 introduction to open_ehr
openEHR is an open specification for a health information model that supports an open platform ecosystem in a vendor-neutral and technology-neutral manner. It uses a two-level modeling approach with a stable reference model and separate clinical models defined through archetypes. Archetypes are shareable and computable models of discrete clinical concepts that can be aggregated into templates. openEHR supports vendor-neutral querying of health information through its AQL and various technical approaches have been used to implement openEHR-compliant clinical data repositories.
1 2 why is e_health so hard
Healthcare information is complex to manage digitally for several reasons:
1) Healthcare deals with large, diverse populations and a safety-critical environment with many stakeholders and cultural factors to consider. The infrastructure is also generally poor.
2) Health information comes in many complex data types beyond simple strings and numbers, such as medical concepts, test results, medications, and multimedia. Capturing clinical documentation and prescribing accurately is challenging.
3) External clinical terminologies like ICD codes and LOINC are needed but must be integrated and interpreted correctly. Managing all these complexities is a major challenge for developing effective eHealth applications and sharing health information digitally.
