The document discusses tips for outsourcing work to freelancers. It recommends outsourcing anything you can't or don't like to do. When outsourcing, consider if you have enough money and if the work is too slow or not good quality to do internally. Good places to find freelancers include friends, groups/forums, and freelance marketplaces. When posting jobs, provide detailed descriptions and perks to attract bids. Consider freelancers' experience, portfolio, attitude, time zone, costs, and more when selecting someone. Be wary of upfront payments or contractors who disappear after bidding.
Manual testing is a skill set that is still needed and works well within the agile methodology. This presentation covers techniques and processes to help testers who are new to agile and help those who are fluent in agile. Learn how to make testing a priority in every project.
Over the past couple of years we've migrated from a traditional, waterfall development process to more of an iterative one. At the same time we've moved from structured to object oriented programming languages. These are big transitions and we are proud to say that we've released our first .NET product built on an object oriented framework.
We have recently adopted the Lean Start-up Process first introduced by Eric Ries. This is a presentation I gave at our customer advisory board meeting that was adapted from Eric's presentation found here:

Roleplay dialog:
Version 1 (not the best)
PM : How is this new chart progressing? You have been working on it for two weeks and it needs to be complete by end of week.
Dev round A:
I'm working as fast as I can! I'm trying to get it done by the end of the week.
PM : Well, I'll check in with you again in a few hours.
Dev round A : I need more time than that, why don't you give me a day and then try me again?
PM : I need this to be done by Friday and it's already Thursday. How much longer do you need?
Dev round A : I don't know, but longer than a few hours..
__ Version 2 (better)
PM : How is this new chart progressing? You have been working on it for two weeks and it needs to be complete by end of week.
Dev round B : The chart consists of the plot, the axes and the css styles we're applying from the design mockup. I have completed the plot, and I estimate that the axis and applying styles will each take about 6 hours to complete. The plot took me longer than I expected. I think we should plan to demo the full chart on Monday.
PM : Can you update me when the axis and styles are done?
Dev round B : Sure. Does the business need to give us feedback on the plot, axis or styles? We can demo the plot now, the axis will be ready in the morning, and the styles will be applied and ready to demo on Monday morning.
PM : No, I think we need the complete product. I'll verify the don't need to give feedback on the pieces.
Dev round B : Ok, I'll send you a note when they are finished tomorrow evening, or I will update you before that if I run into any blockers.

46. Criteria to use when picking a freelancer
• Experience
• Portfolio
• Attitude
• Time zone
• Infrastructure (electricity + internet)
• Language
• Cost
• Availability
• Commitment
50. Contracting/Outsourcing Steps
• Document your requirements
• Document communication tools and norms
• Deadline
• Cost
• Get approval
• Follow-up (1 time/3 days)
• Testing (Document found bugs)
• Payment after getting client approval
• Delay part of it if there are other developers are going to build upon it
52. Low quality work
• You only pay if you're satisfied
• Steps :
• Get him to understand what he’s doing wrong
• Let him try again
• Same result ? don't agree to the next milestone, get another freelancer
53. Missing deadlines
• Pre-action: including consciences in your contract
• Post-action:
• Specify new deadline
• If it’s Possible ? Use intensive follow up plan (at least 1 time/day)
• Not possible ? It’s your fault, you should be able to predict that
54. Bugs never get fixed
• They may don't understand what you're talking about
• You need to explain more details
55. Reverse delegation
• Tier 1: Don’t accept it
• Tier 2: guide him
• Tier 3: delegate to other team member
• Tier 4: outsource/do it
57. They bid then disappear
• Don't pick only one person to discuss with; You could end up wasting
time
58. Contractor raises their price
• As they get more popular, they will raise their price
• Explain to them why your budget is limited
• Offer long term work
• Finally: Take it or leave it
Editor's Notes
Anything take long time from you
Who is referring them? Do you trust that person?
Ask him about example ? Cost details ? Any issues during the project
لو ما اندليت ممكن انزل عالقروبات واطلب اللي مهتم يراسلنيمثلبدك أي تي مان
Freelance groups
More information help you filtering them and discourages unexperienced people to apply
• If people see you put effort in your description, they will also put effort in their bid
Adding perks - you can add "small", "quickly", "short project", "simple"
Why do freelancers like long term?
Not only it means more money, it's that they spend less time searching for projects and clients
If you need it fast, put “ASAP” or “Right now”. If you don't put that, people will bid and then leave
Change and description before posting the job again
Divide out your project into sections then ask them to give an estimate for each section (time and money)
Invite freelancers to bid. You will increase your chance to get a suitable freelancer
Hire different people for each part, they will be specialists in what they do and save you a lot of time and money
Add your team to group chat. You have to make sure everybody is synced with the others and on the same page
You are a client, not a freelancer. Even worst client find freelancers who would like to work with him
Outsourced developers will need more documentation (good/nice design is relative)
Divide your project into segments and make a payment per each section of work
Developers are very literal when they look at specification sheets, if you don't list something out, they will think that's not needed
Fixed if you know exactly what you want (like logo)
Hourly if no one want to take the project
"Hourly" - it means they get paid no matter what, less risk involved
Hybrid when you are not sure about project requirements and scope
Hybrid : Ask them about their hourly rate, then get it lower as possible.. Then work as fixed price project.. Any future requests will be in same hourly rate
If you delay, the other person will match that delay
You can't blame the freelancer if he don’t submit the work before the deadline
